Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

If its of any assistance re - Fairford , the DoD Budget FY2020 'Construction Programs C-1' (roughly 300 pages) published Mar 2019 included $46M for RC135 infrastructure , Intel & Squadron Ops Facility , & runway overrun reconfiguration . The same document for FY2021 published Feb 2020 does not appea...

Well if you think 337 is due back from the Hall then surely that would explain the need for the Notam. So why the speculation of circuits too?

Unless of course the whole post is guesswork, which isn’t very helpful.
Seconded ;)

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

From above ''(Like why didn't the 99th ERS get told to deploy to normally open Mildenhall rather than normal closed Fairford?)'' Possibly for similar reasons to the U2 'swapovers' past several years coming through Fairford rather than the Hall - operationally better suited to the unique demands of U...

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

Even if the overruns at Fairford were strengthened for take off's, an RC-135 still wouldn't be able to operate from there with a maximum fuel load as the Take Off Run Available (TORA) would be limited to approx. 11,000 feet and not 12,000 as mentioned earlier. This is because the 1,000ft or so of o...

Many thanks for posting the info. However, were there actually any aircraft movements?
Nothing moved (except a nice formation sortie by 2 x runway sweepers  )

Re: C.130 - Stick of Twelve Para's, High Up, Late Afternoon

Yes I saw that on 360 radar as well. For some reason my selfish wife didn’t want to spend the entire evening of our holiday sitting in a lay-by outside MOD Scunthorpe, after sitting at Holbeach range for just 5 hours. I tell you sometimes I just don’t know why I married her. 😂 Scunthorpe? :O If Typ...

NOTAMs are very short notice, I would just go over to Fairford first and see if anything is outside. It is only 20 minutes to Brize.

Thanks Neil.
Which hangar are they parked?

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

I believe the RJ's will still move as there was some sort of issue with take off weight restrictions at mildenhall and fairfords runway is better suited? You are correct - strengthening Fairford overrrun(s) to extend TORA (take off run available), planned for RC move but put on hold , enabled highe...

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

Remain in the U.K. could mean Fairford, is there clarification that mildenhall is staying open? I'd suggest its self evident that 100ARW & 352nd SOG will ''remain in UK'' means at Mildenhall for the foreseeable . Congrats to all you Mildy guys & gals :thumb: . As for 'Fairfordians' nothing specific...

Re: C.130 - Stick of Twelve Para's, High Up, Late Afternoon

Glad to see Horny keeping up the standards in A&E [assistance & entertainment] but oh dear I thought we were getting on so well until ' Woodfordes Wherry mucky' - come on :@ ! I know 'mucky' can be a term of endearment , as in 'Mucky Collection' for example [i.e. Muckleburgh] but I don't think that ...

Re: MC.130 - Stick of Twelve U.S Para's, High Up, Late Afternoon

I might be coming past Sculthorpe next Thursday as we have a few days Holiday on the North Norfolk coast. Is there a safe place to stop and view the runway? Scullys not that easy but layby on A148 just east of junction with B1454 was always a good spot though I think less gap in hedgerow these days...

Re: MC.130 - Stick of Twelve U.S Para's, High Up, Late Afternoon

Brilliant post 'Horny' . Get writing your autobiography & put me down for a copy . Perhaps we could have a roll-up at Houghton Hall next time I'm up your way ;) . Scully's busier than it was in the latter years when it was 'open' ! Always been one of my favourite bases over the many decades I've vis...
