Re: F35 on radar sites query.
I don't know whether this has been officially confirmed as a technical feature on the aircraft (or a matter of pilot procedure), but it does appear and has been noted that F-35s tend to start broadcasting full ADS-B once the squawk is set to 7700. Also worth noting that when you do end up seeing one...

Re: Upgrade to mirrorless or full frame?
Canon have very similar rolling shutter performance to Sony with the same limitations as you descend in price. The A9III's global shutter comes with some significant performance downsides - lower dynamic range, higher base ISO and worse ISO performance than the A9II. If you need the global shutter, ...

Re: USAF Certifying F-117s To Receive Fuel From KC-46s
That was late 2022 - just over a year to complete the process doesn't seem out of the question. The A400M helicopter AAR trials took from 2019 to 2021 to complete.

Re: RAF Boeing H-47ER
The Chinook HC3s (now HC5s) were also supposed to be fitted with an IFR probe. As we now know, that capability hasn't been utilised. Just because an aircraft *can* be fitted with one doesn't mean it must be used. MH-47Gs can fly without them if ever necessary, it's just uncommon to see that configur...

Re: What phone do we all use?
I've used Pixel phones since switching over from an iPhone 6 in 2019. I do still like iPhones, I just keep getting better deals on the Pixels. Started with a Pixel 3A, then a Pixel 5, now on a Pixel 7 Pro. Have very few complaints about them (most of which are very niche things, like not being able ...

Re: RAF Boeing H-47ER
Are there any based in the middle east? Not sure there's a permanent need in the Middle East now, given there isn't too much of a UK troop presence there, if at all. There's a need for CSAR support for Op Shader aircraft and likely for special forces operations which don't get publicly acknowledged

Re: F-35 Now Certified To Carry Nukes
I don't think any RAF aircraft are nowadays, mainly because we don't have the WE177 any more. There may be some US owned weapons allocated to us, although I suspect that any such plans are not public knowledge. There's no RAF aircraft able to deploy nuclear weapons - Typhoon has always been a no-go...

Re: Lakenheath - nuclear store
Well that's kind of my point, why not have the storage available should it ever be required. Because maintaining a complex weapons management system for which we have a) no weapons, and b) no aircraft that could even deliver those non-existent weapons (the F-35B is not and will not be cleared for B...

Re: Lakenheath - nuclear store
Where would the need arise? Our contribution to the NATO collective deterrent is our submarine force, which is far more significant than us strapping a couple B61s to some fighter aircraft. The F-35B can't carry the B61 internally and there's zero chance of Typhoon ever seeing one.

Re: Ex Qinetic BAC 1-11 Saved
One-Eleven 539GL ZH763 would've been much better-off where it was previously "stored in Cornwall." Questionable, the HAS site was far from a perfect location for these aircraft. The VC10's undercarriage was found shortly after the museum's closure to have rotted to the point of being completely uns...

Re: Formula 1 2023
Marathon runners aren't strapped into a car with a 1000hp engine inches from their back. It's a very, very different type of physical endurance. It is extremely hot (50-60 degrees celsius) in those cars even on the best day, let alone in a place with 40c+ natural air temperature that drivers often d...

They're not building housing on an active airfield. The old museum site already has new lessors.
