One of the best ever photo - calls, well worth the £6, or whatever it cost. We shan't ever see another one like it!

Remember this meet well. It was just after I.A.T 86, Friends of IAT could use their IAT passes as tickets. Seemed to queue for ages before we got in, but it was worth the wait.

Great post and images from both of you - can remember well as I could not get there but heard / read about all the aircraft there (especially the ‘Dark Varks’ Nellis F-16s etc)
Darren
Was there an IAT in 1986 Philip? Used to be every other year back then and have shots from 85 & 87 and also the Fairford Open Day in 1986Philwinward wrote: ↑Fri May 25, 2018 6:42 pmRemember this meet well. It was just after I.A.T 86, Friends of IAT could use their IAT passes

excuse me for butting in Darren, but I have just checked my log book for 1986 and I too have NO IAT for that year!! on my slides for that Great Meet taken from the outside is one with a waaf sitting in a mini alongside FF/F15's whilst they were waiting to launch. there was a delay a RAF Police vechicle arrived and escorted her away. one wonders what the radio chat from the F15's was like and what happened to her!!!

Re: Tactical Fighter Meet Waddington 1986
Update on previous post, on checking my BARG's for that year there was an IAS=International Air Show at Middle Wallop - July.12th/13th which was laid on by the IAT team and there was a Farnboro.86 that was 32years ago!!!

Re: Tactical Fighter Meet Waddington 1986
Sorry guys, it must have been the Middle Wallop pass that was accepted as a ticket. As Weazel69 said it was 32 years ago !

Re: Tactical Fighter Meet Waddington 1986
My memory is that the following day was an RAF Fairford "Open House" - possibly the last one. I'd got there by bike and train, overnight, and having kipped on the station platform somewhere awaiting an oh-my-god thirty to Lincoln. Then train to Swindon, and cycling up to kip in a field near RAF Fairford. And from memory, it piddled down all day at Fairford too, before getting the train back to Sunny Somerset.
I've also got a vague recollection of there being a deployment of USAF F-4's OTT Waddo into Germany later on the same day. Can't remember the unit - Illinois perhaps?

I was one of the RAF guys checking people in, based at Binbrook at the time.

Spot on Malcolm - think it was dry enough in the morning to do the static but then went downhill rapidly and recall spending the flying display in the car!Malcolm wrote: ↑Tue May 29, 2018 4:04 pmMy memory is that the following day was an RAF Fairford "Open House" - possibly the last one. Malcolm - been having a root re F4's and found at that time there were 8 RF4C's from 363rdTFW/SW + 1 from 67thTRW/BA at Alconbury for exercise "Salty Bee" ( BARG has 18 in total, but that is all I have logged ), whilst Aviano had 10 RF4C's from 153rdTRS - MISSISSIPPI ANG from the 27th.07, but the most likely of them all is Wildenrath had 11 F4D's from the 170thTFS - ILLINOIS ANG arrive 2nd.08

Re: Tactical Fighter Meet Waddington 1986
Yep - think that's right. Waddo was 2nd Aug, Fairford was 3rd Aug, and we did a trip out to Ramstein show later in the month and got some of the Illinois ANG at Wildenrath before the rozzers found us hiding in the forest and moved us on.Weazel69 wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 11:10 amMalcolm - been having a root re F4's and found at that time there were 8 RF4C's from 363rdTFW/SW + 1 from 67thTRW/BA at Alconbury for exercise "Salty Bee" ( BARG has 18 in total, but that is all I have logged ), whilst Aviano had 10 RF4C's from 153rdTRS - MISSISSIPPI ANG from the 27th.07, but the most likely of them all is Wildenrath had 11 F4D's from the 170thTFS - ILLINOIS ANG arrive 2nd.08
I/we didn't actually see them go OTT Waddo - we had to leave before them to get the train from Lincoln->London->Swindon. We did have the UHF box on though and heard them on that. Some other flash/rich spotters I know with cars stayed at Waddo and saw some of the F-4's (7 rings a bell) but they had already split from the tanker and were heading direct MC6 or MCX, so they couldn't fudge up all 11/12. Shame
