RAF 100 £5 coin
Re: RAF 100 £5 coin
There are quite a few 100th anniversary coins around at the moment. I am concerned that most of them seem to have nothing to do officially with the RAF or RAF Charities which would make them more attractive for me. A coin collector would have a better idea of their worth, but if you like them then why not.
I want 2% of GDP and I want it NOW!
Re: RAF 100 £5 coin
The Royal Mint has a coin for the RAF. Seen in the centre of the group here

The cynic in me suggests that generally such coins are not an investment and are not value for money for a collector. On the other hand, they are a good earner for the seller.

Re: RAF 100 £5 coin
We bought one for our 11 year old. He likes collecting coins, but not for the investment possibilities. Just coins from his birth year 2006 etc.
Re: RAF 100 £5 coin
I've got the one with the 3 aircraft on it and I'm very happy with it
Re: RAF 100 £5 coin
The Royal Mint are producing a £2 coin which will be legal tender to commemorate the RAF 100. Details can be seen on the Mint's website:-

The £5 coin with the three aircraft is only legal tender in Jersey.

Re: RAF 100 £5 coin
Unfortunately, all the commemorative junk, plates etc are a complete waste of money. People trying to dispose of them find they have little value, they often end up in charity shops.
Legal tender coins, on the other hand retain there face value, but rarely ever appreciate because so many are produced. So if you like the coin why not buy it, you can always use it. Personally I prefer to go metal detecting to find Roman, Celtic, etc coins.
