A bit of info about 12(B) and the Tornado force

Post by Gary » Thu Jan 18, 2018 10:19 am

Had a lecture about 12(B) Sqn last night

* 12(B) to disband as expected, aircrew to be retained and spread between IX(B) & 31

* Officially IX(B) & 31 to see Tornado out of service, although we all know this can change

* Contingencies to keep Op Shader going, including the Tornados out in Cyprus until OSD. Air Cdre Stringer mentioned in an article last Nov, drawdown could happen this Spring, Belgian's, Aussie's, Canadian's have already started

* Tornado fleet number to keep shrinking until OSD

* No word on the future of 12(B) ie when we can expect them on Typhoon
Posh are going to Wembley (albeit for a tin cup)

Thanks for the info.
The fact that the aircrew strength is being maintained will hopefully allow flying activity at Marham to be unaffected during Op Shader changeover months.
I say, hopefully. Otherwise we could see some very quiet periods in Norfolk.

12(B) standard is now at Cranwell until the next incarnation
Number 12(Bomber) Squadron has lodged its Standard at RAF College Cranwell drawing to a close over a quarter of a century of Tornado operations.

In common with other Tornado and Typhoon squadrons, 12(B) Sqn has over the past three years routinely deployed to RAF Akrotiri on #OpShader from where it completed over 1000 missions against Daesh.

The Standard will remain lodged until 12 Sqn reforms as a Typhoon Squadron, ready to deliver on their motto 'leads the field' once more.
