The Hellenic Air Force will participate for the 3rd time in the Malta International Airshow.

The HAF T-6? "Daedalus" Demo Team will be sending one T-6A Texan II to Malta for static Display.
The team had participated for the first time in the 2015 edition when it graced our skies.

The T-6A Aircraft Demonstration Team constitutes an ambitious venture which aims at spreading and cultivating the air concept in the Greek community and at enhancing the morale of the Hellenic Armed Forces, while, at the same time, it is projecting the work of the Hellenic Air Force to the wide public.

The team at Malta International Airshow is looking forward to have again our Mediterranean friends with us.

Double support from the German Navy

The German Naval Air Arm shall again honour us with its assets on static display during the 25th Edition of the Malta International Airshow.

The two assets participating will be a P-3C Orion Maritime Patrol Aircraft accompanied by a DO 228NG used for Pollution Control.

Both aircraft belong to the same squadron, Marinefliegergeschwader 3 based at Nordholz.

This will see the return of German participation after an absence of two years at the show.

The Malta Aviation Society is honoured once again to be able to host once again our German friends.

Swiss PC-7 Team to perform at Malta

Our friends, the Swiss Air Force PC-7 Team will be in malta once again to give us there great displays.

Switzerland will be the 5th country participating in this year's Malta International Airshow, also bringing the number of display teams to two after the Türk Yıldızları(Turkish Stars) where confirmed some weeks ago.

With its dynamic, elegant and precise flight performances, the PC-7 TEAM proves to the public that the Swiss Armed Forces are highly trained and capable of top performances. They show the crowd how they master the dynamics of military flying.

The PC-7 is a two-seater turboprop trainer aircraft manufactured by Pilatus Aircraft Ltd in Stans, Switzerland. The Swiss Air Force procured their PC-7s in 1983. After 25 years in operation, the aircraft were completely modernised in 2008, in order to meet today’s challenges of military pilot training. A state-of-the-art glass cockpit, GPS and autopilot were fitted, developing the PC-7 into a modern training platform for the future pilots of the Swiss Air Force.

The organising team of the Malta International Airshow from the Malta Aviation Society would publicly like to thank the Swiss Air Force and PC-7 Team for accepting our invitation.

Further support from the Royal Air Force

The United Kingdom committed further support for the 25th Edition of the Malta International Airshow. This time four further aircraft will be added to the static display line up.

For the first time ever during the event we will be able to see closely RAF Hawk T2 aircraft coming from @IV(R) Squadron from RAF Valley, while 100 Squadron at RAF Leeming will support the event with two Hawk T1 aircraft.

The Hawk T1 is also operated by the RAF Red Arrows, and 100 Sqn. While the Hawk T1 is used primarily in the advanced flying-training role, it is equipped to an operational standard and is capable of undertaking a war role.

The Hawk T2 is a fully aerobatic, low wing, transonic, 2-seat training aircraft with mission avionics that are representative of front-line aircraft. It is used to train pilots for Tornado GR4, Typhoon and Lightning II

The Malta Aviation Society organisers of the Malta International Airshow are delighted for the further commitment by the Royal Air Force

Saudi Arabia's Royal Air Force To Participate In Malta International Airshow

For the first time in Malta, the Royal Saudi Air Force will be participating in the Malta International Airshow for the show's 25th edition. The aerobatic team division of the Air Force, known as the Saudi Hawks, have been flying for 19 years, and have managed to scoop up a couple of awards in the meantime... including a Guinness World Records.

The Saudi Hawks team was established all the way back in 1998 to celebrate the nation's 100 year anniversary, and consists of seven specifically-modified BAE Hawk Mk65 aircrafts, fitted of course with smoke generators.

They've performed all over the Middle East, but have recently also impressed crowds in the United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, Belgium and Greece. To this day, they also hold the Guinness World Record for the largest sky drawing, where the seven planes used their onboard coloured smoke generators to draw their logo in the skies.

The Saudi Hawks are the third aerobatic team to be confirmed for the 25th edition of the Malta International Airshow, which has also confirmed the participation of the Turkish Stars and the Swiss PC-7 Teams.

The show will feature over 40 different aircraft participating in the static and flying displays, with the list so far featuring seven different countries participating.

The 25th Malta International Airshow is being held between the 23rd and 24 of of September, and will be spread over different places around the island.

The general public is being invited to visit the Air Show grounds in Luqa, where they can watch the various aircraft from a close distance, actually enter in some, and meet pilots, engineers and crew. The entrance fee for that will be €10, with children and teens up till 14 years of age entering for free when accompanied by a paying adult.

In the afternoon, the aerial display will be held in front of Smart City in Xgħajra, and this is of course absolutely free. This is where people all over Malta will be trying to find the best vantage point to witness the show and snap some photos of the Saudi Hawks among others, using the event's official #MAS25 tag.

Breaking: Royal Canadian Air Force to participate at Malta International Airshow

#MAS25

It is with great pleasure that we announce the participation of a CF-188 Hornet from the Royal Canadian Air Force. The Hornet wll increase the variety of static display aircraft at the 25th Edition of the Malta International Airshow.

The supersonic CF-188 Hornet, popularly known as the CF-18, can engage both ground and aerial targets. Its twin engines generate enough thrust to lift 24 full-size pick-up trucks off the ground.

As the Royal Canadian Air Force’s frontline multi-role fighter, the modernized CF-188 is used primarily for air defence, air superiority and tactical support.

After successful Canadian participation in the 1994,1998 and 2015 editions this year will see the debut of a CF-188 Hornet on our shores, a great edition to the airshow.

The Malta Aviation Society (MAS) organisers of the Malta International Airshow would like to publicly thank the Royal Canadian Air Force for confirming their participation once again in Malta. The MAS team are doing their utmost to keep confirming aircraft for both the flying and static display.

French Participation in the Flying Display

#MAS25

We are pleased to announce a further addition to the flying and static display program, with the confirmation of two French Air Force Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet.

The Alpha Jet was originally designed and co-produced by Dassault in France and Dornier in Germany, as a light attack aircraft, although it was primarily and extensively used, as an advanced / lead in, jet trainer aircraft, produced in large numbers by both the French and the German Air Force.
The aircraft has already participated in our Airshow in past editions, both in the static display and also in our flying programs. Moreover, the aircraft is also used for the French Airforce’s National Display Team – The Patrouille de France, who have also participated in our past editions, namely in the very first Malta Airshow, back in 1993.

The Malta Aviation Society (MAS) organizers of the Malta International Airshow would like to publicly thank the Armée de l'air for confirming their participation once again in Malta. The MAS team are doing their utmost to keep confirming aircraft for both the flying and static display.

United States Air Force to Return to Malta
#MAS25
Another welcomed addition to our ever growing static display park, in the form of a familiar sight in our recent past editions – the US Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker, a favorite with many aviation enthusiasts.
This aircraft, based on the Boeing 707 commercial airliner air frame, is the US and various other Air forces aerial refueling tanker, which has refueled other military aircraft in the air, for the past 60 years, since its entry into service, back in 1957. It is due to be replaced by the modern KC-46 Pegasus which is based on the Boeing 767 airliner airframe. This makes the presence of the legendary KC-135 at our airshow even more significant.
The participating aircraft is one which is based in Europe, namely at RAF Mildenhall Air Base, in the UK.
The Malta Aviation Society is extremely grateful to welcoming back the United States Air Force at the Malta International Airshow 2017.

United States Navy Returns with Two Assets!
#MAS25
Visitors to the Malta Airshow can hardly realize how fortunate we are, to once again, have the US Navy’s latest asset, in the form of a Boeing P-8 Poseidon, gracing our static park ! A
recently introduced air asset, which may almost be referred to as a brand new project, participating in our Airshow !
Last year’s flying display of this Maritime Patrol Aircraft, at our airshow, was effectively the first ever flying display participation of this aircraft, anywhere in the world, outside the US !
This year, we will be able to have a closer and more attentive look at the aircraft, when it participates in our static display, for the whole weekend and even with a possibility of having the aircraft performing a flying display over Smart City.(Flying To Be Confirmed)
The Boeing P-8 Poseidon has been developed by Boeing, based on the Boeing 737-800ERX
(Extended Range) airliner air frame. The P-8 conducts anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASUW), and shipping interdiction, along with an early warning self-protection
(EWSP) ability, otherwise known as electronic support measures (ESM). This involves carrying torpedoes, depth charges, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and other weapons. It is able to drop and monitor sonobuoys. The P-8 is operated by the U.S. Navy, the Indian Navy (as the P-8I Neptune), and the Royal
Australian Air Force (RAAF). The aircraft has also been ordered by the UK's Royal Air Force (RAF), and the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF), and it is a direct replacement to the venerable P-3 Orion, after many years of service, running into decades.
Accompanying the P-8, the US Navy MH-60 Seahawk will also be returning to the Malta International Airshow static park, after previous participation. Both US Navy assets will be flying in from nearby US Navy Air Bases in Sigonella (Sicilly) and Naples (Italy).
The Sikorsky MH-60 Seahawk is a twin engine, multi-mission United States Navy helicopter based on the United States Army UH-60 Black Hawk and a member of the Sikorsky S-70 family. The most significant air frame modification for seaborne naval use, is a hinged tail to reduce its footprint aboard ships, when parked. The U.S. Navy uses the H-60 airframe under various versions. This helicopter is able to deploy aboard any air-capable frigate, destroyer, cruiser, fast combat support ship, amphibious assault ship, or aircraft carrier. It can also handle anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, naval special warfare insertion, as well as search and rescue (SAR), combat search and rescue , vertical replenishment, and medical evacuation.
All Navy MH-60s carry a rescue hoist for SAR missions.
The Malta Aviation Society is proud that once again the U.S. Naval Air Forces is participating with their assets at our show.

Armed Forces of Malta to Display at the Show

Naturally synonymous with the Malta Airshow, is the ever present and much appreciated air assets of the Air Wing of the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM), both in the static display and in the flying program.

The Air Wing of the AFM is the aerial component of the current Maltese military. It has responsibility for the security of Maltese airspace, conducts maritime patrol and Search and Rescue duties, and provides military assistance to other government departments of Malta. The Air Wing is based at the AFM terminal at the Malta International Airport.

One of the assets we will be enjoying during the Airshow is the new rotary wing workhorse of the Air Wing – the AugustaWestland AW139. Three of these helicopters were constructed for the AFM by AugustaWestland, now Leonardo Finmeccanica. They carry a crew of five, including two rescue swimmers, and can carry a total of 15 persons. The helicopters are equipped with state-of- the-art avionics and imaging systems, a hoist for SAR operations and a stretcher for medical evacuations (Medevac). The first AW139 was acquired in 2014.

Another Air Wing asset planned to take part in our flying program, is the fixed wing Hawker Beechcraft King Air B200MPA. This is a state-of- the-art maritime patrol aircraft for border control, with priority given by the Government, to the surveillance of Malta’s borders, and beyond, from the air, over the vast Mediterranean. It has the capability, and sustainability to enable the AFM to continue effectively patrolling the EU’s maritime borders both by day and night, and in support of other EU border-related missions. The King Air maritime patrol aircraft is specifically designed to incorporate innovative capabilities on many levels. Some of the aircraft’s features include improved situational awareness with the ability to have a maritime domain awareness picture and advanced navigational capabilities.

The Malta Aviation Society organizer of the Malta International Airshow 2017 are proud to have the Armed Forces of Malta Participating with their Air Assets during the show.
UKRAINIAN AN-30 CONFIRMED

The Ukrainian Air Force has Officially Confirmed the participation of an AN-30 ''Open Skies'' for the Static display at the 25th Addition of the Malta International Airshow.

The AN-30 aerial photographer was developed on a basis of the AN-24 passenger airplane. It is the first in the history of domestic aviation building machine designed with the only purpose – to perform aerial photography. From basis version it differs with the navigator’s nose glass cock-pit and photo-doors in the floor of the cabin. It has 9 modifications. It can be used in a cargo version.

The Treaty on Open Skies entered into force on January 1, 2002, and currently has 34 party states. It establishes a program of unarmed aerial surveillance flights over the entire territory of its participants. The treaty is designed to enhance mutual understanding and confidence by giving all participants, regardless of size, a direct role in gathering information about military forces and activities of concern to them. Open Skies is one of the most wide-ranging international efforts to date promoting openness and transparency of military forces and activities.

The Malta Aviation Society organisers of the Malta International Airshow is overwhelmed with the confirmation by the Ukrainian Air Force participation in the static display of the AN-30. We are very grateful for such an addition in this ever listing growing list of participants.

What could be the last update on participating aircraft, before the Airshow, is more intended for the aviation enthusiast and aircraft spotters, rather than the general public.

This is because it concerns transport aircraft which will be supporting their nation’s display teams, by flying in and out again, with the teams’ equipment, on the days before and after the actual Airshow. For many of us, it will be the first opportunity to photograph a Turkish Air Force Airbus A-400M, which will be in support of the Turkish national display team, the Turkish Stars. Every one of us is certainly looking forward to that. Another transport aircraft from the Turkish Air Force will also be supporting the team, although at the time of this update it is not yet known whether it will be a C-130 Hercules, or a C-160 Transall. In support of the Swiss national PC-7 display team, a Beechcraft BE1900 from the Swiss Air Force, shall be performing these duties, again on the days just prior and after the Airshow. These are some additional interesting movements, for the enthusiasts, which will nicely round up what is expected to be a great 25th edition of the Malta International Airshow!!

Re: 25th Malta International Airshow 2017 - 23rd-24th Septem

Post by Flightline UK » Sun Sep 17, 2017 10:59 am

A late confirmation, but one that is always very much welcomed by the Malta Airshow organizing team, as well as the attending public. This is because it is perhaps safe to say that this is one of the most distinctive aircraft, which even the general public identify and are fond of, mainly because of the very evident, large rotating radar dome, above the fuselage.

People attending the Airshow, are also usually particularly interested in this large aircraft, because, although it is always subject to operational restrictions and permits, it is usually open for the public to climb on board and observe the internal of the aircraft and cockpit layout.

The aircraft is a Boeing E-3A, more commonly known as AWACS, which is short for Airborne Warning and Command service, alternatively referred to as Airborne Early Warning Command and Control. It is originally an American project based on the Boeing 707 airliner in the early seventies. It provides aerial surveillance and traffic control over the sparse war zones, as well as command, tactical control, and communications, in all kinds of weather.

NATO presently operates 16 aircraft of this type, with multinational crews, with a fully integrated workforce consisting of more than 3,000 military and civilian personnel from 16 NATO member nations. The Malta Airshow, aviation enthusiasts and the general public, warmly welcome the NATO Component E-3A AWACS back to our shores.
The last few confirmations from much welcomed participants, keep trickling in, even in the last few days before the Airshow. This shows the dedication, commitment and enjoyment of aircrews, to participate in our Airshow, notwithstanding the fact that they are very much operationally constrained, which is the main reason why often, they cannot confirm earlier.

This late addition consists of the French Navy Falcon 50. This aircraft has participated in previous editions of our Airshow, including last year, but this time it will also take part in the flying display program, with some smooth flypasts, showing the gracefulness of this streamlined aircraft.

The basic air frame and design of this aircraft is that of a mid-sized long range business jet, but in time, Dassault developed a Maritime Surveillance and Environmental protection version of the aircraft, mainly for the French Navy.
More advancements may still be in sight for this aircraft as Dassault and Aviation Partners Inc. have announced that High Mach blended winglets, are being developed for the Falcon 50 as a retrofit kit.

The Malta Aviation Society would like to thank the French Navy for its continued support in our airshow and we are grateful for having them back in both flying and static display.
