HMS Sultan Tours

Post by loadmaster100 » Wed Aug 09, 2017 7:30 pm

Hi all,
Can anybody with previous experience of HMS Sultan tours give me some idea of exactly how much access is available. I have never been to Sultan, and they have a Heritage Open Day "Aircraft tour" advertised for 9th September. Will this give me access to all aircraft on site or will it be limited to just one or two examples of aircraft they have ? Any info will be much appreciated.
Dave

I believe the open day only gives access to a small number of aircraft.

We'll have some more Sultan tours later in the year, though places are limited and they're in very high demand!

What aircraft can we expect to see, is it just the ones you can see from the road?

When I did a heritage day tour a couple of years ago they showed us round the Newcomen hangar which is the one next to where the outside a/c are.
Cheers

HMS Sultan used to have an open day....Not sure if they do it still...I do know that a lot of the hangars have been subcontracted to private companies for apprentice training...not on aircraft either...Southern Water being one such....

Hi Dave, the heritage tours are better than nothing, you get to see what's outside plus in side Newcomen hangar.
To see in the rest of the hangars and do the full tour,
Contact threshold, they did two full tours back in April, I was lucky enough to get on the second tour.
I have done three heritage days and they are better than nothing.
Hope this helps.
Regards Les
