Norwegian Visitor
Bit of a rare one today at RAF Valley, a Norwegian Coastguard EH101/ Merlin 'ZZ101' (current Norwegian serials were taped over) it rocked up on a test flight from Yevil. It landed re-fuelled then went out over Holyhead bay for some form of tests, landed again for another re-fuel then departed back to Yeovil.
If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...
Re: Norwegian Visitor
There used to be 2 RAF launches based in Holyhead harbour (No 1113 Marine Craft Unit) frequently used for deck winching of trainee pilots after they had been thrown overboard for ditching/ dinghy drills. Presume there is still such a setup there. The AW101 Mk612 with MRCOA serial ZZ101 (to be RNorAF/KNL 0264) could have been involved in winching trials there.

Re: Norwegian Visitor
Aircrew survival training is still carried out at Holyhead, but by a contracted merchant vessel, currently MV SMIT TOWY. Smit International also operate a number of Range Safety Vessels at various locations around the coast, a number of which are forward deployed to the West coast of Scotland during Ex. Joint Warrior to provide Stop & Board and Fast Inshore Attack Craft training. Their aggressive manoeuvring in the latter role has to be seen to be believed, and compared to these fellows, the Iranian FIACs which hassle US warships in the Gulf are pussycats.
Re: Norwegian Visitor
Interesting to know what the current state of affairs is. I used to regularly go past the MCU building and see their launches when going fishing off breakwater.
