About 20 years ago wasn't there a Lightning on display in the South Gyle area of Edinburgh? I am sure that I saw one from a passing train once.

If anyone is heading that way from down south there is two seat Hunter in Klu markings next to the Stonehaven - Peterculter road for the same Avon reason.

Just to add a bit more on this lovely aircraft, I took some shots on my first 3 megapixel compact back then in 2004.You can also see the place was used as a staging post for the display aircraft
doing the Sunderland air show...

It certainly used to sit on a roundabout there as a division of BAe had offices there. Been a while since I was down that way but I think she may have been moved.

I finally got in touch with someone at the Score Group in Peterhead on the phone a couple of weeks ago.

No visits to the Lightning possible anymore.

Company policy.

Excellent pictures of a magnificent aircraft.

Of interest, the Greenwich power station in London houses eight Rolls Royce Avons, which are still all fully operational. They are used to power generators as an emergency back up power supply for the London underground system...

I can remember when I had a visit (as a nipper) to the then new Norwich power station at Trowse, which had (I think) 2 Avons

This is a photo of the Gyle Lightning at the DGAM.
If you look underneath you will see the square mounting used to mound it onto the pole. I understand that the DGAM is in the process or removing this to restore it back to it's normal appearance...but they may be looking for a belly tank.

the lightning that intercepted Concorde at full speed, and over took her! ""Everyone had a bash - F-15s, F-16s, F-14s, Mirages, F-104s - but only the Lightning managed to overhaul Concorde from behind" Flt Lt Mike Hale at the roll-out ceremony for XR749
