Mirage IV arrives at Elvington at last! More pictures added.

I'm not long back from a long day at the museum, so only a few quick edits for tonight. But after nearly 26 years of negotiations the IV has made it to Elvington

1. Turning off the road to the museum site.

Image

Both Lorries enter the site watched by the news media and one gatecrasher! :grr:
2.

Image

I can't leave Lindy out she says hi to a fellow ex strategic nuclear bomber.
3.

4.
New home at last.
It will take just over a week to reassemble and then a official unveil will happen not long after When I have dates I will let you know.

Thanks guys. As I said only a rushed few last night. Today some more for you.

Earlier in the day the logistics vehicles arrived with the jacks and specialised wing attachment equipment. They also brought the smaller bits of the aircraft.

1. Nose minus refuelling probe.

Image

2. The probe which is made of steel and quite heavy, so if you look carefully you will see how many holes there are for the amount of screws needed to fit to the nose!

Image

3. The rear fuselage and jet exhausts.

Image

4. Main undercarriage leg. They are as spindly as I remember them.

Image

5. The wings

I got to look at the parts prior to the main aircraft arriving and can say they are in good shape with the internal wiring in place not cut. All pipes are blanked correctly so it looks well looked after. With failing light I got a quick look at the wings and fuselage they also looked in good nick.

The aircraft won't go on immediate display, as an unveil is planned. The details are not complete so I have no date, but it won't be to long, after all we have had to wait long so far a few more weeks won't harm it.

Very Nice, thanks for posting, hope to get up there to see it later in the year.

And for anyone else thinking of going to Yorkshire Air Museum.... go for it, as it is one of the best and certainly the friendliest museum I have ever visited

Mirage IIIE 538 wearing "3-QH".
Will be good to see both Mirages - side-by-side or will the IVA be kept undercover?
Cheers, TM74

Thanks for your interest. Give a visit a couple of weeks as the aircraft needs to be rebuilt and won't be on official display for a short while after that. It will initially be kept under cover, but the beauty of our museum is we can move things around. As to it being displayed next to the Mirage III all I can say is yes it will, and a event with them will be held later in the year. Plus waiting a while has another added bonus our live Buccaneer XN974 is nearly finished on her repaint. She has had 15 months maintenance returning her to running status and a successful engine run in February. She has been returned into her first colours which are her Navy colours she wore for the trails on the USS Lexington and simply looks stunning. I cannot wait for the final touches to be added.

The rebuild started today, looking closer at the bits its in decent shape, a couple of minor items were slightly damage in transit nothing we won't fix.

Below a couple of video you may like.

I suspect the UK DSA should spend more time looking at standards in London (maybe)....
