Display Harriers
Display Harriers
Seven years and counting since that air display favourite, the Harrier, was axed in that piece of muddled Government thinking glorified by the title of the Strategic Defence & Security Review in 2010, one of several icons sacrificed to pay for the bail out of the failed Banks. For those who are missing it here are a selection of images of some examples which graced our airshows down the years more or less in chronological order.
Re: Display Harriers
Nice. I remeber G-VTOl in it's faux desert scheme with azure blue underside at Farnborough doing some pretty spectacular vertical climbs from a hover many years ago. I think the Swiss renamed a mountain after John Farley when he did that at a sales demo for them.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.
Re: Display Harriers
Do you know where G-VTOL is now?

Re: Display Harriers
Nice pics. I don't know why not, but I never felt much affection for the Harrier as a display machine. Can't explain it. Whilst I love most things of an aeronautical bent, it's displays were clever, but for me, unspectacular, and I found them a little boring to be honest. [I know I am in a HUGE minority here, but am just being honest.]

Re: Display Harriers
I always loved the sight of a dark grey Sea Harrier FRS1 against a gloomy sky bombing around in the distance at or near an airshow. Its very sharp pointy nose and smaller size always made it look like it was doing 700mph everywhere.
I think a shiny dark grey FRS1 was one of the smartest looking military jets ever made personally.

Good memories.
I liked the display - so different to see a fast jet stationary in mid air.
My favourite was the GR.7 they looked cool had a nice big easy to read serial !
