Tornado RTP at Leeming

Post by DavidT » Tue Jan 10, 2017 5:46 pm

With close to 50 GR4s currently in RTP or storage at Leeming can anyone advise if they hangared or if some parked in the open. If outside are there any photo possibilities (with a long lense) ?

I would be surprised if they had more than 20 of them left at Leeming, and they would likely be the most recent 2015/16 arrivals.

The specials have all had the fins removed and gone to the Sqns, even the 40th anniversary jet was seen dumped as a shell and photos are out there on the web of it.

Sad they are going but they are getting old

The RTP workshop is in Hangar 3 , the middle one of five and behind the old control tower and they use the HAS site to store their airframes . You occasionally see a Tornado taken from a HAS to the engine de-tuner to be run up but it's a long way from the viewing area for any decent photography .

Vulcanone, I note what you say about the Special Tails, was that the GR.4s only or have the F.3 Specials been spared although Treble One have disbanded.
