Yeovilton Air Day from outside

Post by MarcelB. » Mon May 25, 2015 9:51 am

Good morning folks
i'm planning to attend this years RNAS Yeovilton show and am looking for some information about "spotting outside" during the event, due to the fact you're facing the sun all day long (if it's out  )
Any chance to stay outside the fence like e.g. during Waddington and Fairford!?
thanks for your help

If I remember correctly, the answer is a resounding "no" for Yeovilton as there are enforced "no loitering" notices in place.

its not impossible, but road and footpath closures make it very difficult!

And what about the week before and after the Air Day? Will it be possible to photograph the arrivals and/or departures from outside?

The restrictions normally cover Friday to Sunday. Can't remember if they apply on Thursday too.

Last time I went to the show I noticed a large group of folks and cars in a field on the opposite side of the runway near to the church ( to the rhs of the crowdline if u were inside) not sure if this is freely available for a small fee as duxford/cosford etc....... any info from the locals welcomed as I thought it would be an ideal spot .....

Joe I think you're refering to the fields next to Pyle Lane that Tony Whetherall used to own. He stopped 'letting' out his fields some years ago due to the change in International airshow rules. The fields are under new ownership now and I don't see them ever opening up to the public again, sadly. :(

The restrictions are normally only on the Friday and air show day. Restrictions dissappear in time for Sunday morning. I think last year there were some limited restrictions on the Thursday afternoon before the show.

If I'm reading the above correctly - the only part that refers to 'foot passengers' is Schedule 2, so you can't use the public brideways to the east of the airfield? And the likes of Pyle Lane and Bineham Lane are only closed to vehicles and pedal cycles?

Correct. Although you may need to be prepared to explain that to those "guarding" these roads/lanes.

Unfortunately I think you are incorrect.

Part 4 paragraph 2 says: "No person shall cause or permit any foot passenger to enter on, proceed or wait in the lengths of road as specified in Schedule 2 to this Order." I would read this as Pyle Lane and Bineham Lane being closed to 'foot passengers'.

Cheers

It’s not what you look at that matters. It’s what you see.

Hi all,

Having watched and enjoyed the arrivals & displays south side today this is sutuation.

At the east end, the extended sheep field is closed and patrolled so NO access, as are the roads that lead to this field. No one was being allowed passed the road blocks, even on foot early this morning. If you want to get south side, be prepared for a long walk. It is possible but hard work. I use a combination of cycling and walking. :)

Cheers, Robin
