Canadian Hornets 1987
Hi
Were there detachments of Hornets to Binbrook(?) in 1987?
I saw 4 over Pickering (North Yorkshire) on 14 April 1987 and 4 more on 24 September 1987.
Might anyone have the serials?
Cheers

There were 2 in Binbrook sometime in the late eighties, can't remember exactly when though, just tried to find my old book for you but it looks like SWMBO has "tidied" it away.............
Re: Canadian Hornets 1987
Think there may have been some at Marham or Honington in 87, I'll have a look later for you.

Re: Canadian Hornets 1987
Canadian Hornets were at Binbrook for the Elder Forest exercise in April 1986, although this obviously isn't the actual detachment you're referring to. If you need them I'll try to get you the serials. If you want to see them in action seek out the 'Lightnings at Binbrook' Volume 5 DVD made by Chirs Norris. They're available at LPG open days or via their website. Fantastic they are too. How lucky we are the Chris captured and shared hours of footage, to be preserved forever.
Apologies of course, if you already know all this.

Re: Canadian Hornets 1987
Old logbook found. I have Canadian Hornets 188741 and 188734 noted at Binbrook on both 21st and 22nd April 1986. Hope it helps.
Re: Canadian Hornets 1987
From memory, there was a detachment on sqn exchange at Coningsby around the time, might have been early 1988. I will get the old logs out when I get the chance.

Don't do numbers but think these jets may have been from 439 Sqn? There was a 439 zap sprayed in one of the HAS on that site last I saw 10 years ago.STEVIEJAWS wrote:Not much help to you but from BAR :

Re: Canadian Hornets 1987
Nothing in 'BAR' re. CF-18As at Linton in January 1988. The nearest I can find is three CF-18As (188742, 188748, 188766) and one
CF-18B (188922) noted at Mildenhall on 8th January.
UPDATE: Just after posting the above, the thought crossed my mind that there just might be some info in the list of January 1988 visitors at Yeovilton (I had concentrated on RAF/USAF bases). Sure enough, four CF-18As (188733*, 188734*, 188742 and 188744*) arrived there on 11th January. Those marked * were replaced on 14th January by 188736, 188740 and 188743 (which in turn left on 15th January along with 188742). Another CF-18A, 188738, visited Yeovilton on 14th January only.
I know this doesn't absolutely confirm which four you saw at Linton, but at least it narrows things down a bit.

Excellent work Mustang5861...!
As you say, I will most likely never tie these up but you have given me great information.
Many thanks indeed, I am very grateful for your kind assistance,

Re: Canadian Hornets 1987
must have been a busy year for those guys because Colt. had the following based for a "Mallet Blow87-2" exercise arriving the 4th.08.1987 and noted the 6th
188736 188748 188750 188755 all 409 Squadron & 188749 439 Squadron
which also coincided with a Squadron Exchange of F16C/F16D of the 10thTFS 50thTFW HR bl with 6 Squadron
Happy Days
just in case there is any query on the above serials I have slides of 736 748 749 755 arriving on the 4th whilst I have 736 749 750 755 on the 6th so there might have been a swop over
