Seem to remember reading on this site (Lossie section, I think) that the same will happen with the P-8s, which will be numbered in the 800 range? Happy to be corrected if I've got that wrong.
ZP801 - ZP809

Basically, a lot of UK military serial allocations these days are nothing more than "personalised registrations".
Actually the P8A block reserved for the RAF is ZP801 to ZP815

Thanks for the clarification guys.

Maybe they will be used for the 5 E-7 Wedgetails they have ordered.
Or possible simulators, ZZ398/399 are A400 Simulators

Both ZZ398 and 399 are Army Wildcats

Have the ZE7XX ever been used before?

[edit - I see they have, on the 146s. Poor use of the crystal ball!]

I’m not so sure the MOD have placed an order for E-7’s just yet, if that is the selected option I suspect contracts are still to negotiated and signed? Unless you know something different?

They haven't ordered them yet, currently at the negotiation stage. Probably see a formal order or contract next summer at the earliest.

Well done agent K
I thank you  it does seem the firm favourite (for many good reasons) and I'm sure a contract will be signed at some point.

They need to introduce a new computer system called TOPS, and renumber them all with 5 digit numbers :P

Great post Tom and many thanks for taking the time to post it, the 3rd batch of Tornados always used to puzzle me.
The original Lightning F1 batch started at XM134, so I'm not sure why the F-35 allocations should start at ZM135 - any ideas?
F-35 - ZM135, I'd imagine?

The guy who allocated the serials for F-35 told me it was because of the F-135 engine.
