Hi all, new to the board and had my first visit up at Warton a few weeks ago. Does anyone know when the RAFO C130 is departing? Also, is it visible from any of the viewing points?

still here over weekend afaik. Havent heard it departing (on climbout) from Lytham not far from Warton. Try Monday am. If parked on southside "cargo" apron (which it was last time it was in) you can view it from along Bank Lane in Warton near the entrance gate to BAES sports & social football/cricket pitches. Bank Lane leads to static caravan parks but you dont go as far as these. Do not go inside gate IF open as you are trespassing on BAE property amd please do not obstruct the entrance. Not brilliant for photography though.
Cheers

Yeah I know the place on bank lane, I was there a few weeks ago at that location viewing Typhoon ZK456 before moving over to the other side near the runway. May take a journey up later or tomorrow to see whether I can see it on the apron as I’m only around 45 mins away.

Also, I’ve read they have a static EE Lightning, Canberra and a Tornado GR.1. Are either of these visible from the bank lane or stoney lane?
Thanks!

the canberra front fuselage used to be in the grounds of the ATC unit you would pass along Bank Lane to get to the location I mentioned in my last post. Now gone.
There is no Tornado GR1 outside anymore (and none inside for that matter..only 2 rsaf tornado IDS left in 358H southside, 1 still flying).
The Lightning is on display between the Flight Test bldg and Fire Station/Control tower, and is (at least partially) visible from outside further around airfield from the gate on Bank Lane. You would have to start walking along the path along the Ribble estuary from the end of Bank Lane past static caravan parks. It may also be (partially) visible from a point along Bush Lane (gap in hedge!) which is the same stretch of road beyond Stoney Lane.
Cheers

Just checked from SSA gate Bank lane.

Omani Herk is parked nth side and is visible behind primer typhoon BS154 which is still out on NW side airfield.

A B73F is sitting on Cargo apron sth side.

Indeed the Lightning is visible tail on from a position just to the right of this gate but for a better view you would have to go further around the perimeter to the sth of the main rwy (07 end). Depends on how much you need (want) to see... :-)

A contact at Warton tells me Jet2 may be doing approaches / t&gs at Warton as part of their training regime - it's fairly quiet I suppose these days. There's no guarantee of when this will happen as apparently Jet2 have arrangements at a number of airfieds for this and will pick and choose on a day-to-day basis depending on local traffic and local weather.

Thanks jetnoise.

Up again today by looks of it. Twin-seat typhoon closely followed by a single seat seen on climbout 0957z (stream departure rwy 25).
"Target" landed 1153z (BT17/ZK303).
"Fighter" (ZK356/BS117) initials 25 1204z & low approach 1205z; initials again? & land 1209z.

Cheers
