The mound

Post by Gary » Wed Sep 12, 2018 12:09 pm

Reports from various people and groups say the farmer is starting to remove the mound. Not sure to what extent

If this thread descends into arguing I will remove it

Yeah I've seen multiple posts on Faceache that it is being dug away today, lots of vehicles there removing it.

What a terrible shame.

Does anybody know if the area is still going to be ok to park in?

Hate to say it, I think that's the whole point of his exercise, sounds like he's had enough of us. I wouldn't be surprised if the entrance is gated later on. :(

According to posts on Facebook, it was just a little bit of the mound as has been done before. Less of a mound removal and more of a farmer needing some soil.

Again, how true this is I don't know! Will found out next week when I'm there I guess...

The farmer in question, is very good with enthusiasts, the fly tippers and the doggists, not so. Hopefully its just to reclaim soil for his fields, time will tell.

Doesn't this happen from time to time when he needs extra soil?

Just a thought :) Speaking of fly-tippers and rubbish leavers, as above. We all get plastic bags pushed through the letter box, instead of binning them if not used for charity, put them in the car, so that they can be used to collect small items of rubbish around the airfields that we all love.

I also heard that he needed some soil.
He took some from the mound and some from the driveway leading to the mound.
After all it's his land (leased from the RAF)

During the RAF 100,I collected 3 bags of rubbish(mostly Bottles and Cans) from the mound.
I assume not from spotter's.
It's sad that to keep the farmer happy,We need to pick up after everyone else.

Well some of us can remember it when it was gated and you could only fit about 2 cars in that entrance back in the early 1980s.

Shame if it goes.

I know the farmer and I have spoken to him about the mound. From time to time he will remove some soil as he requires it, and this has been the recent case. Over time, unless he gets more soil, this practice will continue as and when and so ultimately it will disappear - but he has no plans to remove it completely at the moment or limit access to the area. Hopefully this will put an end to speculation. I do know that the level of litter is a disappointment to him as it is to us all who visit the area. Not all the litter is from spotters but we need do our bit. One other thing is that there is generally enough parking in the mound area. So the farmer would like people not to park on the side of the road near the entrance as he uses that as a 'slip road' when he comes from the site in farm vehicles due to limited vision of traffic coming from the right. We are very lucky with the access we have got at Coningsby - lets keep it that way.

Next time you see him, please tell him that we appreciate his kindness and that some of us do collect & take away small items of rubbish.
