Wonderfull day today,

Having set up chairs and steps before 08.30 to repel trolls, we settled down for the entertainment. Sure enough, Typhoons started taxying at around 10.00l and continued all day.

Late morning, a somewhat stressed security man told us (most strongly) to move our chairs away from CG1 or he would call Lincolnshires finest. We found this interesting but moved away as requested - car was not a problem it seemed.

11.45l One Typhoon and one SU30 pd to Marham, second Typhoon and SU to Vale of York - nowhere near as noisy as we expected, and not really all that much filth out of the back - but a delight to watch.

Middle of afternoon, still plenty of ongoing Typhoon action, RAF lady asked for car to be moved - no problem, moved it.

15.45 repeated flights as above, noted SU asked Marham (233.075) for rapid climb to FL150 following pd - did anyone actually see this delight.

They would seem to be hot on security around CG1 while the exercise is on. Though not the first time CG1 has attracted attention?!

Hey Phantom, thanks for your interest, will all be different this week - back to normal.

Looking forward to a good day, if 41 & 29 sqdn manage to taxy before tea time.

Runway 25 all day in a steady westerly, perhaps a little more comfortable at 20/21C with reduced humidity.

Should be a partly cloudy but dry day in a light north westerly, giving us runway 25 all day, as temperatures rise to a comfortable 20/21C.

Shall be taking receipt of new supersteps which will give us considerably increased altitude for any clear photographic requirements.

Also now have a twin mobile DVD system, which will allow us to watch Stanleys disc reminding us of the serious benefits of thrust vectoring whilst we sit waiting for someone to taxy on another night flying week. Tinky will be able to watch his own entertainment, on the second unit.

Edit - Weatherman now tells us it will rain for most of day - how can they keep changing their minds.

After the recent hot weather, clocked 31.5C yesterday and 27.5C this morning before a shower passed through, it will be quite pleasant in an 18/19C south westerly. Runway 25 all day, with maybe a shower later on.

No night flying NOTAMed, so hoping for a full day of entertaiment.

Turned left instead of right today, and ended up at Lakenheath - couldn't get anyway near where I wanted to be but hey ho.

Pavehawk (Charlie11) entertained most of afternoon, with a complete package of approaches - and he kept out of the way when anything else was occurring.

Engine starts just before 14.00 - Tricky11 4 ship, Duster51 2 ship, further 2 ship, Death11 3 ship, and a final (Pistol21) 3 ship of F15C/D.

Matey had said Vulcan at 15.00, papers had said 16.00 - wondered about the old Zulu/BST confusion. Matey2 said spoken with Station Commander and it was 15.40. Nevertheless, Vulcan21 flight plus Pistol photo ship, hit us from the southwest at 15.30 - three lovely passes, pity the returning F15s got in the way, before being east of Wattisham (still visible) and requesting on to Southend radar for Clacton approach.

Looking forward to another good day as the high pressure moves gently eastward giving us light, mainly dry partially cloudy, south easterly breezes. So, runway 25 all day, in a nice 19/20C autumn day.

What a damp day this week, with lots of regulars departing early. Our first line fighters did though keep us entertained, albeit on mainly IFR recoveries.

Following departure, and only some 10 miles south, it was all bright and shiny. I pulled over at a lay-bye and stepped out to enjoy the fresh air and autumnal sunshine.

After a minute or so, a black Aston Martin pulled up behind me, and Matey and his wifelet jumped out to enjoy half a Rothmans before getting back on board and quaffing a Trebor full strength.

I noted the reg. as AA11 JON, but did wonder why Matey expected me to recognise him - anyway, they subsequently turned right for Wisbeckistan as I continued toward Nelsons county.

p.s. It wasn't Jonathan Woss.

As we approach and pass through the autumnal equinox, we can say au revoir to those lovely warm days. We will now have a spell of showers, in a light north westerly, giving us runway 25 all day at some 14/15C.

Whilst we have a drop of night flying to look forward to, I note that it will be 29 Squadrons 100th birthday, so the least we can expect is a spot of bingo at 12.00Z, or after the marching has finished. Listen out for "Typhoon42 taxy".

I note also that HRH will be making the journey up from Norfolk, expect he'll travel Queens Flight rather than A17.

Rose at the right time to be delighted by the lunar eclipse, sadly standing on the estate with little clothing meant an attack of sand pigs - brought back memories of time on Ghan in 1969 when a walk along the beach for a moonie called for lots of itching cream.

With high pressure about, things will remain same same for some time, so we can expect light east south eastern breezes giving us runway 07 all day. Temperatures will rise to about 17C, and dry for some time hence.

A steady light north easterly will blow giving us runway 07 all day in a dry partly cloudy 13/14C.

Same was forecast here for Saturday when we were blessed with an hour of heavy drizzle.

Don't know how much entertainment we may receive as I understand 29 Sqdn have gone north, to keep out of the way of the ACPV, and 3 & 11 Sqdns may again be on nights.

Edit : And it looks as if 3 x 41 Sqdn Tornardoes have gone overseaes under Ascot callsign.

Officially it may be called "sunny intervals". We will see a light north westerly, dry all day, partly cloudy giving us runway 25 all day in a gentle 14C.

Later it will move to the southwest with a drop or two of rain, particularly mid week.

Whilst the base section is devoid of information, I note from a separate source that 11 Sqdn. appear to be continuing their habit of late p.m. take off for a bit of early night flying.

Razor flight has been with Tartan 11 in AARA8.

I do hope that 29 Sqdn. are up and about in the morning, in a dry day with a gentle south easterly breeze and comfortable temperatures of some 15C+

Hopefully temperatures will lift a little to maybe 8/9C in a partly cloudy, perhaps showery day.

We are now back into south westerlies giving us runway 25 all day.

We would hope that The Captains "Lightning Pilot" is about this week for maximum entertaiment.

Drop of night flying this week, which may concentrate our minds if we also get the forecast rain from the south west.

At least we can enjoy runway 25 all day as we plan ahead for the festive break.

Members and associates will enjoy our last gathering of the year in a perhaps damp day. Near normal temperatures of 8/9C in a light southeasterly will give us runway 07 all day.

Festive delights will be available for the chosen ones, as we recall the high and low points of the past year.

We also will be making our regular trip to visit George in his Beverley care home - taking festive cheer and humour on Wednesday.

The very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to all members, and see you all on parade again 05/01/16.

Looks like a damp start to our new year, with a light south easterly giving us a probable runway 07 all day.

Whilst a lot of aircraft are still away - 41 Sqdn Tornardoes and 11 Sqdn Typhoons in USA, 3 Sqdn tucked away at Lossiemouth -they weren't on parade on 15th Dec.

We still managed to have an interesting day then, with whatever was available.

Members will be braced for true January weather, as the wind moves round to the north, giving us a wintry 4/5C (feeling lower with wind chill) and runway 07 all day. Don't expect too many mound dwellers snouts above the parapet.

First drop of night flying, which, although not a problem at this time of year, may limit our entertainment a bit as there ain't much left at CBY a ce moment !
