Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Just had a look at TankBuster's link again, there's a lively cell (!) over Montpellier just now. Unfortunately I don't have a home computer; I'd liked to have seen what was going on around the edges of the Lake District last night. There was lightning way to the West of Kendal, but no thunder- it could have been over the Irish Sea.

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up

None forecast for our area today but this still happened.

It's only a couple of miles away and by god did it make us jump !
Hopefully no serious injuries, a good friend lives a couple of doors away, they've all been evacuated until Gas and Electric checked out.
We had storms yesterday evening as well, they weren't forecast for our area either.
Last year at about 8 or 9 in the morning a single 'bolt' struck a tower crane at the local hospital.
No storm, no other strikes, a bolt from the blue as they say.
I did hear that the crane operator was on the ladder at the time, but I don't know how true that is.
Be safe everyone.

Not over here (yet?) but there're storms all over Europe according to "Lightningmaps" with a humdinger over N. E. France:- been unable to count the number of lightning strikes per minute or even seconds, there's that many.

Yep, looks like France is getting a pasting again, it was the same yesterday evening.

Small update on my post of April 13th.
Just as an indicator of damage.
Spoke to wifes friend, lives about 200 yards (its an imperial estate) from the Strike. she lost the Internet, when she rang her provider they said that it might be a couple of weeks before shes back on, they were sending a new router but from the amount of calls in the area they suspected major damage.
A lady I know lives in sheltered housing about 1.5 miles away, when she returned from a short break she found that her TV VOLUME WOULDN'T TURN DOWN, no Internet, no alarm, no satellite tv, all the houses in her road (about 20) appear to be the much the same.
Suspiciously 2 house within about 2 miles of the strike had 'UK Power Network Generators' in their gardens for a day or two afterwards.
The roads in front of them were dug up and on one they were replacing about 10 feet of cable, might just be a coincidence or could be a routine repair.
I think the lesson here is to unplug stuff !
On a separate note. A house a couple of miles from me was struck about 10+ years ago and it blew out the gable end.

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
I've been watching those over the last 20 mins. There's a ripsnorter swathe across N.W. mainland Europe. And there's some manifesting in the Shap area which I'm watching too, may not need to water me beans this evening in Kendal.

Just looked at the Metro site:- gives any wind as southerly so afraid it'll be the hosepipe again. (Thirlmere is about 6ft below max).

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
There have been some spectacular high cloud formations today. I'm in Colchester & these were in the distance looking towards Chelmsford way. Some nice Anvils climbing way up into the heavens! I reckon the south/ south western part of Essex had a good soaking underneath that lot!

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
Had a large storm pass close to Colchester last night. Looking at the lightning tracker, this storm stretched from west to east, starting in East London right through parts of Essex and out into the Blackwater & Thames Estuaries! She was a big one & was flashing like a goodun .

Re: Monday/Tuesday Thunderstorm Heads Up
We got absolutely clobbered in North East Essex during the early hours of Thursday. There was some very spectacular c to c & c to g lightning displays, and the accompanying thunder claps were really quite frightening!
But the rain was something else, with flooded roads & properties all over the county!
It really was one hell of a storm!!!
