Specsavers England vs India Test match series

Post by slogen51 » Thu Aug 02, 2018 2:40 pm

England are in a strong position in the first Test

What a strange summer it is.

Never mind the summer of '76 the Summer of '18 will be remembered by today's teenagers when they recount the good old days to their kids - Joe Root now he could bat!

Brilliant match. Test cricket is still my favourite sport. At its best, nothing else comes close for drama. Just a shame most of the country can't see it, and the viewing figures on Sky will be miserable as usual. Anybody else on here actually play?

I prefer to listen to TMS on the radio - very pleasant if you are out spotting in the car my dear old thing!

Used to play for works teams and occasionally a pub team in Chertsey but was usually relegated to the out field while all the ex-public school players did all the bowling and opened the batting.

Once hit two sixes in an over at Meadhurst while facing a Pakistani fast bowler who apparently worked for BP whom were the opposition. ( Amazing what you can do with your eyes shut)

T20 between Surrey and Middlesex last night was much better watching than the Test Match. Jason Roy and Aaron Finch opening for Surrey absolutely brilliant and much better entertainment than watching Osrams at a certain Norfolk airfield.

Jason Roy must be due a test debut

Osrams are old school. More like LED lights from Screwfix!

The T20 was no contest between bat and ball though, as entertaining as it was! The ebb and flow of the test was enthralling and meant the result was in doubt almost till the end.

Hmm very interesting :grr:

Osram is the name of a company that specialises in lighting, not the name of a light bulb. They are currently specialising in the production of LED lights probably the ones available in Screwfix

England in an even better Position in the second Test, after Bowling
the Indian Team out for 107 on the second day of this rain affected match
James Anderton 5 wickets for 20 runs things can only get better.

Anderson , the Slope , the Conditions ; no team can survive long.

Let's see how England go - a 200 lead should be enough?

Great effort against what is on paper a fine Indian side.

Yet another "test" match that lasted nowhere near the allocated 5 days. The skill for playing in this type of match is no longer there. Short boundaries, used to use the whole gambit of the venue, people running on and off at the end of each over with drinks, gloves, bats and anything else they can manage, not the game it used to be.

The one and only Test Match I have ever been to was at the Oval in August 1960 and featured South Africa. I had the privilege of seeing part of the innings of Geoff Pullar, made 175, and Colin Cowdrey, made 155, now that was class batting.

Before I retired, TMS was my constant companion in the car. Gasholders, buses, pigeons and dirigibles - the very essence of an English summer.
When I was working at home, my ploy to minimise distraction was to listen to TMS and leave the TV on in the next room with the volume turned down. Then if something interesting happened, like a boundary or a wicket, I could nip through and watch the replay.

So England only need 210 to win from 90 overs on the last day of the third Test.
