UK thunderstorms. Friday 27th July 2018.

Post by adderman » Fri Jul 27, 2018 3:31 am

Morning all.
0430L.
What a surprise to be woken up by rain pounding on the cab roof at 0400 :'( !
Must confess I'm a little hacked off with the heatwave so hopefully the forecasted storms will be the breaking of it.
Already flashing and thundering here in Colpy Aberdeenshire.

How's it going with everyone else?

Mike.

Really loud thunder and lightning in the Lakenheath area had just woke me up at 04:30!

Still rumbling at 05:00

No rain as yet

Clear as a bell here in Long Stratton, but local radio has been full of reports in the west of the region of storm activity :D

No storms here in Birmingham, wish it would blow this way and clear the air.

I check 'lightningmaps' every day- been nowt over the U.K. for a fortnight ('realtime lightning' shows the existence of a strike for 30 minutes before it fades from the map). Yesterday afternoon I logged on within 30 minutes of a couple of strikes in the Loughborough area; when logging off at around 1540L it looked like there was a real electrical kicking off around Mansfield- first I've seen for weeks. One south of Cambridge too. My pal in Newmarket has related about this morning's.
It looks like we'll have ours over the southern Lakes tomorrow. Bring it on. Could do without the strong south-westerlies though.
Roger
Edit: As at 0950Z there're two main swathes of storms: one over the Tees/ Wear area and the other off Flamborough Head.

Pretty bad in Haverhill, Suffolk this morning - heaving rain for around half hour, bit of thunder - unfortunately, it hasn't really cleared the air much, made it more muggy :( You can't win!

Clear blue skies here in Colchester and was hitting 30 degrees at 09.30 this morning.
No sign of any storms yet, but I could see the high anvils out to the west which were the storms floating up the western edge of East Anglia this morning.

And there's plenty more where that came from!

Absolutely typical - The south and east of the Country get all the best weather whilst the rest of us get nothing.

This is typical of a Tory government that only worries about the few and not the many! :P

We had one of our best ever Lightning shows up here in Dundee last night, and even saw my first ground strike no more than half a mile away. Was supposed to be more today but thankfully the sun is starting to show again.

Not much rain no storms in our part of the Wirral Peninsula. I thought it would be appropriate to post some
music to go with the extreme weather.

Some lightning to the east and the west of me last night in Lowestoft. I little rain overnight but not much. Just a 10 minutes heavy shower this morning about 10:00. But that was all. Glad it is a touch cooler now.
