How forums suddenly become quieter during bigger sporting events (fair enough I suppose.)

Edit: facial expressions of some footballers. Falling over, optional squirt of "magic deo" then BAU! Priceless :D

Then up as if nothing has happened....

United Utilities have just announced a hosepipe ban effective from the 5th, August, 2018, over the last couple
of days we have had heavy rain showers which have filled three 100 gallon water butts we have in our garden.

This morning one of the pipes leading from the roof to one of the butts had become blocked with moss and
debris I went rummaging in the garage looking for a cane I found one about twelve long low and behold it
had a white and red flag with the legend England, that's what made me and my wife laugh today.

He may still have a 5 or 10 second penalty pending a Stewards' decision. That would drop him to 2nd or fourth respectively

Fisherman's Pickup stuck in sand at New Brighton

Post by AndrewBarclay » Thu Sep 06, 2018 2:01 pm

Whilst awaiting the river traffic to either arrive or depart at Gladstone Dock a
group of onlookers were treated to what can only be described as a "Dads Army" attempt
to rescue a small pickup/trailer which had reversed into the River Mersey to recover a
small 20 feet long fishing smack this happens practically everyday without mishap.

On this occasion the Pickup was stuck in the soft ground and the tide was coming in
a few unsuccessful attempts the smack was detached to lessen the weight.

Other fishermen arrived with 4X4s the drivers waded through the water
attaching tow ropes some drivers gently let out the towing line till it was taut and
with engines revving were unsuccessful in trying to free the pickup didn't budge
and the water was getting deeper, other drivers turned up and tried to pull it clear
with violent manoeuvres, what was particularly dangerous some of the fishermen
were standing on the wrong side of the towing ropes as they snaked one way or
another. Two 4x4s attached ropes and with engines screaming and wheels spinning
the sand the driver of the pickup gave up and removed all his gear from the pickup
and appeared resigned to the fact that his pickup was lost until the tide receded.

In all good stories you need a hero and here he comes charging onto the sands in his
Large white V8 engined 4x4 the driver reverses to the pickup attaches a tow rope
and drags the pickup clear of the water he gets out receives a round of applause
and takes a bow.

Edit; Amongst the crowd was a fellow Fighter Control Member, on several occasions
he has helped me with problems, it was nice to finally meet up and put a face to a name.

P & O Cruises have just announced that on their new ship "Iona" there will be a Gin Distillery amongst other features. On subject of cruise ships the "Disney Magic"
the one with Mickey Mouse on its funnels is berthing at Liverpool Cruise Terminal
AM Friday the 7th, September, 2018, when it sails there will be a huge fireworks
display according to Stuart Woods Ex River Pilot.

I'd better not mention the 'gin distillery' to my wife, and will book with a different P and O ship next year :) !!. Took our first cruise with 'Carnival Fantasia' many years ago, no ears on that one thank goodness.

Sat in the doctors reception the other day. Avoiding the ITV mid-morning shows blaring out on the TV and reading the local info.

"DO YOU REQUIRE A TRANSLATOR? WE CAN ARRANGE ONE FOR A FEE, PLEASE ASK AT RECEPTION." It was in English only????

At New Brighton overlooking Gladstone Dock there is an iron safety rail. This
this morning a Painting and Decorating firm arrived to paint the railing with a silver undercoat, obviously as a safety measure they taped the area where they were undercoating with the legend "Warning Wet Paint please do not
lean on the railings." The decoraters were only 50 feet away when a couple of
photographers arrived taking photographs and guess what they leaned against
the wet undercoat what was even more surprising they had.nt noticed the wet
paint because they just got into their car and drove away.

No Mike I didn't paste it, it happened today the painters were perplexed as to why
anyone remove their tape walk over the warning and take photographs of shipping
lean against the freshly painted undercoat and walk away we thought it was a
Monty Python moment. and it made me and the painters laugh.

Anything our current Prime Ministers says, then I realise she is not joking. What a sad state our country is in with her in charge.

It's not because of her. Whoever is in charge is going to have exactly the same problems, with massive differences of views of how to deal with the problem. If you think BJ or JC can do it better, then think again. They will encounter exactly the same problems.
