It is with great sadness that I received news today of the passing of Ron in late October. Ron flew Hurricanes as a Sgt pilot during the Battle of Britain with 111 and 249 squadrons. He was later commissioned and ended up as a Flt Lt gaining the DFC. The photo shows Ron, second from right, at a pub in/near North Weald on 1st October 1940. On the left is his best friend, my uncle Sgt P H Waghorn (the identity of the airmen in the photo is unknown). Another of 'The Few' has left us.
