" I say chaps lets get back to cricket". Although we have just lost the first test by 10 wickets all is not yet lost.
If you cast your memories back to the 2005 series England lost the first test but managed to win the 2nd at Edgbaston and went onto win the Ashes.

Of course we had Freddie and Kevin P in the team and they were not angels so give our guys a chance.

Well said Mr Barclay, sentiments echoed.

We were just talking about 2005 Edgbaston at work, what a series that was.

I would like to make a complaint . To call someone an imbecile is uncalled for and not worthy of a member of this forum

I too would like to make a complaint - to call the England cricket team "weak minded yobs" is insulting and inflammatory and completely incorrect.

The fact they feel the need to do that suggests they are all just weak minded yobs to me.
Are you a genuine cricket fan?
Certainly not! But then you don't have to be a fan of a given sport to comment on the behaviour of the team who play it.

Yet another team of English, over-ambitious under-achievers.

Why are they not number 1 in the world ?
They appear to play every day as I hear on the news.
Unfortunately it's all year round.

At one point during day 3, Australia were 207 for 7, against England’s total of 302.
It was expected England should gain a reasonable first innings lead. England considered by most to be well on top at that point.

We all know how it ended up, but it was not as one sided as the score suggests.

Australia have not lost against anybody at “The Gabba” since 1988.

A good read up that
Am looking forward to the next game,I think we have a chance.we need to bowl with a bit more aggression IMO as the Aussies were aloud to ( without the umpire saying it was unsafe) so whats good enough for them......

Just a quick reminder also to keep comments polite and respectful to everyone.

Thank.

Why do they not play according to their ranking?
Winners in 2010 and Runners Up in 2016, and in between...?
2005, 2009, 2010/2011, 2013 ... different players! different teams!
See what Opines means...
The one thing you are correct on - Rugby is much better to concentrate on.

I switched on the radio today expecting to hear commentary on the 2nd Test Match but what I heard was that Tuffers was suffering from Hay Fever.

I thought that this might be appropriatehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2stjfHeM4RY Fever got into system.

Try this link.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jez2ssTIOqg Apologies to any sufferers.

Close of play on first day Australia put into bat by Joe Root 209 for 4 wickets, new ball taken in final over
with Jimmy moving the new pink ball both ways.

Is it moving to the onside boundary and then the offside boundary :P

Broad is trying to bounce them out

Win the toss insert the opposition and they make 400+

Can't resist this : Craig OverTON has gone for a hundred runs

I believe your right paddyboy, it was on purpose.

This was a strategic plan concocted by the backroom staff. Ther are more of them than there is in the playing squad.

In the same way the decision to bowl first, having won the toss. The Australians made it clear they would have chosen to bat anyway. The reason was the wicket was very dry. Exceptionally so, not planned. This technical data was available to all, but England did not appear to know. Apparently in the days preceding the test, very heavy rain was expected, so the groundsman planned for that. It did not happen. It is not as simple as just putting water on, grass cutting and other preparation is different.

On TV, an Australian past captain stated “bat or bowl? In England you look at the sky and the atmospheric conditions. In Australia, you look at the wicket. You look down, not up”.
