Escaped Lynx still not caught.

Dyfed-Powys Police has said the lynx could become aggressive if it is cornered and are urging the public to be vigilant.

Sadly the Lynx has been destroyed :-(. Why they couldn't tranquilize it I don't know! It hadn't even been considered!

Destroyed?! How pathetic.

The foxes run free, the otters clog up the streams ... :grr:

I was absolutely disgusted when I saw that this beautiful animal had been killed :grr: How can it be so easy to sedate big cats in the African bush when researchers want to tag them, but so difficult to do it in Wales for it to be returned to the wildlife park???

I am certainly no expert, but the destruction of that beautiful animal seems to have been done with undue haste :(

Up here it's otters and muntjac that run riot with impunity :@

I was equally disgusted when I heard the news yesterday.

Can't believe that local council gave permission to destroy the lynx :grr: :grr:

Our family also think it should has been shot with a tranquilliser dart, but we think the Council was swayed by several factors. It had been missing for several days before the Zoo noticed, several Sheep had been killed & mutilated in the area(therefore the FUW got involved) & on the advice of the Police.

A second Lynx has died in a Welsh zoo due to a "terrible handling error". I get the feeling Wales has a no-care / don't care attitude towards wildlife. :@

From the BBC - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-mid-wales-41964094
A second lynx belonging to a zoo in Ceredigion has died, the owners have confirmed.
The news comes after Lilleth the lynx was 'humanely destroyed' on Friday after escaping from Borth Wild Animal Kingdom.
A statement from the zoo said a "terrible handling error" had led to the death of the second lynx, Nilly.
The Lynx UK Trust called for the zoo to be closed, saying the deaths were "unacceptable".
Ceredigion council has defended its decision to have a marksman shoot Lilleth, prompting an outcry from the owners.

Terrible news! I find it unfair to blame the whole nation for it though! Me and my Mam give lots of money to different animal charities.

The zoo may have an uncaring attitude, not the whole Nation!

Gareth is totally correct, IMHO :(

Just seems incredible that a supposed zoo can seem to have such a cavalier attitude to its inmates :(

Does it have a track record of such atrocities :S

If it does.....close it now :@

Cheers Paddy, its like saying an animal dies in a zoo in the south of England, blame all of England!

You would think the "zoo" would be more careful after the tragic killing of Lillith!!

I was going to make a quip about your comment, but this is no post to be making any humour.

No of course Wales isn't to blame for this - just the zoo; the council; the marksman; the farmers.
But it could reflect badly on what is a beautiful area and usually has lots of visitors.

From what was said in the interview the other Lynx died last week before the other was shot.
The death of the other Lynx was caused by one of those catch poles - which of course hold the animal round the neck. But it seems the animal was held far too tight and strangled :grr:

So a terrible series of events which the zoo may struggle to come back from.
