NHS

Post by Cornish-guy » Tue Oct 24, 2017 3:36 pm

Hi folks some people on here know my wifes situation with cancer tumours, well yesterday her hospital day arrived so we got a taxi over there, we booked in and took a seat in the waiting area, we were called in and taken to see what I understand was a MRI specialist who conducted an MRI scan after a brief explanation of what will happen during the scan, the wife went into the MRI room and I waited in a side waiting area, she came out after what felt like hours, but all that time we were treated really well with a lot of empathy and understanding.
Back into another waiting area we got a cuppa then we were called into a private room and introduced to a Oncolagist specialist, we were sat down and went throught the normal niceties - we also spoke about the wifes history of cancer, the results from the MRI were then discussed with us - they are the angry malignant type of tumours as we were already told after her ultrasound, we were told the next steps and procedures involving chemopherapy.

So - we were very impressed and pleased with the treatment we received from the hospital and NHS.

Apologies Cornish - are you asking whether members are pleased with their experience(s) with the NHS?

If so yes as I am. Also with the fire service, ambulance service, police (local bobbies can be abit jobs worth) but these guys that deal with the terrorist situations I take my hat off to them and our Armed Services

I dont understand the initial paragraph though - my wife recently had a 'trip' to the hospital but did not feel I wanted to share on an open forum (dont think she would have been too pleased if I had either!!)

What can you say about people who have saved your life!!. West Suffolk Hospital at Bury St. Edmunds and it's staff are one step down from God as far as I am concerned. I knew I had a problem, which resulted in me going to A and E on a Bank Holiday week-end. I was very ill, was X rayed within 30 minutes, admitted, and was operated on the very next day with a colon that was about to burst. It was stage 4 cancer, was in hospital for 3 weeks, then had a pulmonary embolism at home 10 days later, which I rushed to hospital, and it was VERY close to being the end. Was rescued, two more operations, and here I am six years later, cancer free!. I do hope that your wife joins the survivors club. Surviving this has changed my life. I cannot get upset by anything these days. Kind regards to everyone with this awful disease.John.
Cornish. I am sure that I don't have to tell you that cancer treatment is a two way thing. A lot of people don't realise how much support that will be required from wives/partners etc. Chemotherapy is a nasty thing, but it is far, far better than the alternative. Good luck, stay positive.

Thank you for looking and the warm regards, I posted it just as a way of sharing how good and invaluable the NHS and our hospitals are and how they are both empathetic and
proffesional in their approach during such a time, their attitiude really helps to take the edge off what is horrible experience.

Totally agree Cornish - they are worth their weight in gold. Also had an experience at Bury St Emunds hospital after a wasp sting - top people

Saying that - the people at my private medical care hospital are equally as good good and caring in having a similar approach

Best regards

Sadly for me I remember the 3 misdiagnosis for 3 close family members, but im not bitter, still it takes time to get to terms with it.

NHS saved my life after serious accident. I cannot praise the staff of Addenbrookes highly enough. I lead a virtually normal life now. If I lived in the US I would be in a wheelchair as medical insurance would not have covered my treatment fully or aftercare. I can state this as a fact as I know some in the US who had a similar accident and is still wheelchair bound as he and his family cannot afford the treatment.
Moral of this story. Never forget how lucky we are to have the NHS in the UK. Fight to keep it.

Despite all it's problems, our NHS is still the envy of most of the civilised world. I have a 51 year old friend in the U.S. who has only a slight diet problem. He pays $9,000 a year for his health cover, and has to pay the first $1,500 of any treatment he has. He has had to refuse some on cost considerations from time to time. The U.S citizens I know will tell you that they are God's chosen country, and it's the best place in the world to live. Right............... :S They are also HUGELY jealous of our NHS.

My wife has a long term illness, and also myself and my wife had short stays in hospital in August this year. The treatment and care we get from our local hospital, Musgrove Park at Taunton couldn't be better also the support from our own local surgery as well. I have nothing but praise for our NHS, long may it carry on.

My wife was diagnosed with an illness last June, and from that point onward, throughout all of her treatment I have had nothing but praise and admiration for the NHS staff. That goes for the staff at our local Doctor's surgery, and all of the staff at Colchester General and Colchester Essex County Hospitals.
The care my wife has received, and continues to receive has been second to none!

The NHS gets a huge thumbs up from me, and that goes out to each and every person within this excellent service     .

And there's plenty more where that came from!
