A real tragedy; however, due to its location, access and fascination, was it wholly unexpected?...

Yep, civilian.
That's why it's in General Chat.

Sad, but it was going to happen at some point, as stated above.

Very sad, but as Gyvespa says, there has always been a certain inevitability about this. Some years ago, when I was there, I stupidly stood under the approach of an Airbus A.340. I ducked as it went over my head. Only did it once, because it is something you have to feel that has to be done. Idiotic, and I should know better. Standing by the fence is a totally different thing. Why one would want to get sand-blasted by being so close to jet efflux is a crazy idea. Despite the danger of being blown into the concrete lane divider on the road, there is danger from flying stones etc., I saw a young lady who could not stop herself from being blown right across the road, then across the beach, and then into the sea, totally unable to stop. KLM747 propelled her!. Gorgeous place, but visited by some crazy people. Not at all surprised by the recent event!.

Agree sad but was always just a matter of time.

Think back to the top gear episode with the Virgin 747 & the Car, kind of put's the effect of jet blast into perspective.
