SPTA news

This was posted on our local social media site, as a response to the moaners regards low flying.........

The UK’s military forces have today announced that will be making compromises to the way they run night training operations in and around the Salisbury Plain following complaints from local residents.
Starting from Monday 15th May 2017, all night flights will no longer be permitted. As alternative, all pilots will be conducting extra daytime flights whilst wearing blindfolds.
The dispute began on Wednesday evening following the army’s fourth night of training of the month. Angry residents of Westbury and Trowbridge took to Facebook to protest their lack of sleep, after the training continued long in to the night. According to one eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, the flight plan of the aircraft meant that at any one time there was at least 75 aircraft located directly over their house causing them to be unable to watch Coronation Street in peace.
Following on from very rushed discussions between the heads of the army, navy and air force it was agreed that all night flights would be moved into day time. To simulate actual night time flying the pilots of the aircraft would now be blindfolded. When challenged about the dangers of this plan, spokesman for Keevil Airfield, Command Richard Milhous Dastardly, stated “We know that it will be a dangerous time for our airmen, but we know they have the skills. I am aware that my men have had a few incidents, but they are only having to fly over a populated area and perform practice manoeuvres. It’s not like they have to chase a pigeon or anything like that.”
The first test flight will take place on Monday 15th at 1600. Residents are advised to close all windows and doors so that any noise will not interrupt their watching of Escape to the Country

I suppose that regulars at the Longs Arms (Steeple Ashton) will be moaning that it breaks their concentration during cribbage games.
