RAF Coningsby Airshow - Mass Tornado F3 Take off and Flypast

Hi

Can anyone remember the year for a Coningsby 1980's / 90's Airshow, where a launch of 22 or more Tornado F3's took off as a constant deafening stream and then returned later as a Diamond / Box formation?

I've tried numerous searches on the net but can't find anything specific. I was hoping to find a video of the event.

I'd also like to look at the aircraft logs for Coningsby Airshows if anyone could provide a link?

I'm a bit rusty but it was probably either somewhere between 1987 and 1990 when the OCU/65 Sqn did a Queens Birthday Flypast

As for Airshow reports Scramble may have them here?

last open house airshow they held, been a while me and my Dad went, the exact year slips me, mid 90s I think.

I was there...in fact it was 18 tornadoes taking off from the Coningsby airshow - what a fantastic show of afterburners as they all went off in unison - and the year was 1986 for the Queen's 60th birthday. They took off, flew to London over the palace & returned to Coningsby airshow for landing.....WOW....WOW....WOW

Certainly happened a few times if I remember. I think 1990 was the year as aircraft were still launching from the runway, those already airborne were streaking back the other way before heading off for the QBF.

I seem to remember a couple of aircraft were 'air spares' - so maybe it was 18 aircraft, 16 to make up the 'diamond' formation for the Queens 60th and 2 airspares.

It was certainly deafening listening to the stream take off on afterburners.

I can't remember the exact year either!!!!!......but I do remember a Tornado, that came back with it's nosewheel leg stuck down! I think that the pic attatched is the one in question!
