Diesel prices in the UK
Re: Diesel prices in the UK
Asda up a penny to £0.987
I brimmed mine at £1.009 minus my 4p/litre discount voucher, so paid £0.969/litre.

Morrisons Coventry: 100.7p
I did note Asda Leamington at 98.7p earlier today. I'm contemplating filling the cars before the Budget Wednesday.

I did recommend, last Tuesday, that everyone brims their car before he starts talking regardless of whether or not tax goes up.
Re: Diesel prices in the UK
It's now at £1.03.9 at my local Morrisons, I had a 5p off a litre voucher which I didn't notice ran out yesterday...................... Fortunately we didn't need any as we've not been anywhere since we filled up last week for 96p a litre (with a 5p off voucher)

Re: Diesel prices in the UK
My local garage where I can get discounted fuel plus my 4p/litre discount doesn't play during school holidays.
Hence I was forced to top up at Asda (same same throughout UK) at £1.017/litre.
Isn't that a nuisance when the voucher ran out yesterday.

Re: Diesel prices in the UK
Just back from a couple of days in Spain and the price for petrol is around €0.85 up and down the Costa Blanca diesel is about €1.09. !!
I know this topic is about UK prices, I just thought it strange the diesel is about the same price as it is over yet petrol is much cheaper!

Sorry £1 = approx Euro1.26, so that Euro1.09 equates to 87p/litre.

103.9p at Asda Rugby today.
Re: Diesel prices in the UK
The problem with cheaper prices for most supermarket fuel is that in reality, it costs you a lot more due to poorer quality. I cant say what is up with the fuel types in supermarkets but I do a lot of miles (approx. 45-50,000 per year), over the same journeys, in the same traffic and therefore 'MPG' conditions week in week out. I have tried all types of diesel and I find for, example, with Asda and Tesco own my 2.0 diesel will do 500-550 miles to a tank, yet on Esso and Shell it will do 625-650 every single time if under the same conditions. After pointing this out to my colleagues with identical cars they have now all noticed exactly the same. Fuel may be a few pence per litre more at Esso compared with Tesco, but when you get 100 plus miles more out of every tank supermarket fuel becomes a very expensive way to buy it then. Not to mention how sluggish my car feels on the supermarket stuff. You might need to let your ECU adapt to the new fuel type with 2-3 tanks but it will make a huge difference.

Having worked in car sales for a few years, if there was a significant difference between 'Esso' and Asda then the manufacturers and retailers would be stipulating that you fueled at certain sites: They don't.
The fuel that you use comes from the same storage facilities hence how HGV drivers action groups managing to limit the supply of fuel to every station by picketing one or two facilities.

I back up this theory. I've tested this many times and have come to the same conclusion. I fill up £30 a Week on petrol and do the standard work journey 5 days a week, same route, same traffic flow with a few odd trips here and there locally. I average around 270 miles on supermarket fuel however I'm a loyal Shell user and will easily get 350+ miles on same pattern.Stroudy wrote:The problem with cheaper prices for most supermarket fuel is that in reality, it costs you a lot more due to poorer quality. My car is a Ford Focus and it does stipulate in the handbook that it is recommended to use BP fuel with a RON quality if 95 or more. Most supermarket fuels are 94 RON (I think this is the burning rate at which fuel is used in engine). Therefore your vehicle is not as efficient at a lower RON value of fuel and burns more to keep alive.
There may be more to it than this but I will never use supermarket fuel regardless of price as the few pence you save is worth the value back in miles and smooth driving alone.

This may well be true, but the facts are there for me to see. Doing the amount of identical miles that I do annually the pattern is very clear.mark.alan.barnes wrote:Having worked in car sales for a few years, if there was a significant difference between 'Esso' and Asda then the manufacturers and retailers would be stipulating that you fueled at certain sites: They don't.

Maybe some engine types are more affected than others, but affected they certainly are.
