Hogs at the Heath - 81st Fighter Squadron Deployment

The A-10C Thunderbolt II, also known as the Warthog, as well as "The Tankbuster". Whatever you want to call it, this is one aircraft perfectly designed for its role. AeroResource's Ben Montgomery was at RAF Lakenheath with the 52ndFW to find out more.

I believe Ben is referring to what is deemed CAS nowadays; the role that the AD-1 Skyraider had during Vietnam. Of course, the Phantom and Super Sabres provided air support, but not in a "low, slow, lots of bombs" kind of way.

That's how I read it, anyway :)

Excellent piece Ben.

The 81st FS is also known as 'The Panthers'.

TankBuster
And there's plenty more where that came from!
