Merlin Hunter - can you confirm that ZK334 is now coded FB and in full 1(F)Sqn marks or was this a typo?

Hello Steven,

Definitely not a typo. Last time I saw it it was actually in 11sqn markings (but with FB code) as part of the air show line up. I don't know if the 1sqn marks have been reinstated but it was definitely in full 1sqn marks on the Thursday morning before the airshow.

Now I know this isn't probably the correct forum section to post this but with regards the RAF Typhoon Line Up at the Airshow now realising that the Typhoon of each Squadron Line Up was actually made up of disguised local 6 & 1 Squadron Typhoons all I've got to say is that it must have been some session in the Leuchars Paint Shop to get these markings on in time for the Airshow. In all honesty top marks all round........

I think you will find that the Squadron Markings, and badges, these days, are in the form of computer printed plastic adhesive sheeting. This is much quicker than a paint job and the result is to a consistent standard. Visits to the paint shop are for the ordinary colour scheme and those occasional anniversary schemes. This system is also used to print off (small) ordinary signs for example office doors and all those others you see around accomodation blocks and hangars.

Looking at the lovely line up on the BoB day the giveaway was that, despite the current six squadrons being represented, all the codes displayed were either E_ (6 Sqn) or F_ (1 Sqn) of the based squadrons. Someone should be applauded for their initiative with this but they forgot about the varying codes for the respective squadrons.

Hope this is of interest.

David.

Mike - I've read another post on the Leuchars section for the new identity of ZJ928. Was BX of 29(R)Sqn and is now in full 1(F)Sqn marks as FQ as per captainscarlet's photo in the Modern Mil section.

Hi Kevin,

A temporary measure until Leeming is adapted for Typhoon! :halo:

Do you think Leeming will have a Typhoon RTP line when the Tornado is finished or
will it be Shawbury for store ?

A lot will depend on the vote in Scotland I think.

Cheers
