ZF537 should be one of the Lynx, and I presume the other is ZF538?

The airbase is expanding, just ask the UK Defence Minister, it was an exclusive in the Courier chap!
No, he said the base is expanding, not the "air base". And if you read the article it looks likely he was simply referring to the fact that the long-planned move of Army units into Leuchars is continuing.

The current exercise is Exercise Chameleon, scheduled to last only till tomorrow night:
Q) EGPX/QWPLW/IV/M/W/000/040/5625N00239W003
B) FROM: 16/08/29 08:00C) TO: 16/08/30 23:00
E) EXER CHAMELEON. PJE WI 3NM RADIUS 562450N 0023911W (E OF LEUCHARS).
NON-PARTICIPATING MIL ACFT SHALL AVOID THE AREA AT NIGHT. FOR INFO
07590 561868. 16-08-0604/AS4
LOWER: SFC
UPPER: 4000FT AMSL
SCHEDULE: 0800-2300

However other NOTAMs indicate that there will be increased activity within 15nm of Leuchars until 17th September, and that the Highlands Restricted Area is being activated from 5 to 16 September, which may be related.

Lynx Pilgrim 1 was noted early today, transiting northbound through the Dundee ATZ to the west at 100ft agl. So i expect he went looking around the sites. Didnt hear any specific warnings regarding D604 but i expect things may kick off this evening.

The exercise area is over the sea to the south of D604 and only barely overlaps with D604. Also, D604 hasn't been notified as being active above its usual 1500ft

Last night around 7PM there was a Skyvan low over Jedburgh, heading in a northerly direction. Did this end up at Leuchars?

Im told that C-GKOA that is based at Brize was the culprit, which left again heading for Leeming.

For those that are more interested in Luechars movements rather than hurling primary seven insults at each other,
on Sunday there was a Chinook active and a C-130 doing multiple trips out to the bay - presumably para dropping over a large vessel with several smaller boats in attendance.
A C-17 also arrived sometime between 13 30 & 15 00 and is parked at the west end of the main ramp, well placed for photos. I assume it's brought more pongos in need of a bath.

Are the two "ZORRO" C-130s still operating from here, or have they now shifted "base" to Leeming??

Only caught one Herc yesterday but i believe both have been in over the weekend, one having been at Leeming for a good part of last week.

Thanks, Geoff.

I was just wondering - as "ZORRO2" ZH877 seems to be spending a lot of time over Yorkshire.

Just to fill in a small gap, both Chinooks and Lynx were very active Sunday afternoon/evening.

As a word of caution, if anyone ventures to the crashgate in Reres woods. Expect to have the MoD Police pay you a visit. Was there this morning and had them round as we were 'acting suspiciously'. We also had a visit from a group of soldiers who were less than friendly towards us and said that photography wasn't allowed. Changed days sadly.

Lossie 05 , ZK380/T appeared last night(Mon 5th) for 3 visual circuits around 20.15 before departing to the east, a welcome evening visitor, and Zorro 2 was working for a couple of hours in the overhead till late on!

Hello all,
Managed at last to get over for the second time in the hope that i could catch the 3 i required. The 2 Hercs were on good ol ASP3 with the Chinooks seen from Strathkinnes, i think on the old 1sqn line. Initially could not locate the Lynx, but later found one on my pictures. Looking back to Sundays picture from the same location and found both parked closer to the Eden.

Now the tale of woe! Parking at the old haunt of Crash Gate 9(i think, jeeps its been that long!), a very nice MoD Police officer called me back to the car and asked me to move down to where the snack bar now sits, which isnt an option for me due ground clearance issues. He did say someone was going to post something up on the net, but seen as ive not seen anything or i have missed it, can anyone who is visiting Leuchars, please avoid parking in the area around crash gate 9 for the duration of the exercise. I hope this is just a temporary thing for any of the regulars who i think still frequent the place. I then followed the POs advice and parked at the gas monitor to grab a quick pick of the Hercs, got out the car and found id lost me batteries!!!
