I'd like to point out that the frequencies and allocations are wrong in both of these.

Your Ops frequencies for the Squadrons are wrong Tim.

XV(R) Sqn - 386.825 - Robuck
12 Sqn - 360.450 - Oxide (currently being used by XI Sqn for CQWI, 12 are using 234.050, should be back to 360.450 on Monday)
617 Sqn - 339.850 - Tallboy (was n*gger)

Secondary Talkdown is 369.20
Cheers Niall

Excellent. Don't really listen to the ops frequencies, its mostly just recovery states passed as well as serviceabilities.

Just been looking at the map Mike which Areas on there are the Typhoons from Leuchars moving into? Also are 15 Sqdn moving to another part of the Airfield? and where are No.2 Sqdn likely to be operating from and will 202's area still be used once they leave/ Sea Kings retire.

You are asking questions to which nobody really knows the answers but if you take my response in the spirit it is offered then I will impart all I know (or suspect) to be accurate.

If you take the PDF in the first link then 1 Sqn is going to where VASS is currently indicated to be - Alpha dispersal - with their hangar being number 3. Hangars are numbered 1-4 from the south. VASS has moved to south of the de-tuner (south of the control tower) - Bravo. 6 Sqn will be using Bravo North and 1 hangar. That's all the information I have concerning the Leuchars Typhoons.

II (AC) Sqn (that's 2 Sqn using Roman numerals) are moving to the old 617 south HAS site and 15 Sqn are staying where they are. I don't know what is going to happen to the 202 Sqn site when the Sea Kings retire.

Hope this helps.

Al

6 Sqn will remain in 1 hangar, 1 Sqn will be in 3 Hangar, XV(R) will remain on Charlie and II(AC) will be in the southern HAS site. VASS are moving to Delta. Hope that clarifies :)

Not being a local, but visiting Lossiemouth at least once a year, I've become familiar with which areas are in use by the resident Squadrons. Could somebody tell me however, what the HAS area on the XV Squadron side of the airfield is known as ( I think it was used by 12(B) or 14 Sqn) if it's currently in use, or if it would be a possible location should an extra Squadron be formed?

Thanks in advance,
Steve.

It is currently known as the Northern HAS site. In days gone by when 12(B) loved there it was referred to as "12's" site. At present two of the HAS's are used for QRA and that wont change given the amount of work that they got to bring them to that standard. In theory another squadron could use the rest of the site with only 7 HAS's. Those HAS's are currently for Weapon Load Trainers (WLT) and general airframe storage, but in my opinion there is nothing stopping that being moved over to the now empty 202 hangar.

Hope that helps!

Does any of the Squadrons use the region near 23 end for a ramp? Everything must be hangared currently or else Sqn away as it's empty. Always remember seeing more activity between the 23 end and the control tower. Is this all pretty much unused now?

Also, is there nothing at the north HAS presently?

Cheers

Ringo,

Alpha hard (The closet ramp to the 23 threshold) is usually occupied by 1(F) Squadron, who are currently occupied in sunnier places. Bravo Hard (Behind the tower) is usually occupied by 6 Squadron, who we presume are getting ready to go away to sunnier places and are presently on leave. The Northern HAS is currently taken up by QRA (Two primary HAS's and two standby), the Weapons Load Trainers 'WLT' (One Tornado and Typhoon) and the others are presumably storing assorted airframes.

Hope that is of use.

Hi all,
There is a new section starting in the RAF Lossiemouth station magazine 'Lossie Lighthouse' which aims to recognise and publish some of the excellent photography taken of our aircraft from enthusiasts outside the wire. If you have taken a good photo you would like to share with the magazine please email to:

LossieLighthouse@Hotmail.com

Please state in the email that you took the photograph and that you are happy for us to publish it, the date you took it and your name (if you'd like to be credited).

Further to my enquiry of 18th inst under Topics, I ventured to the sea-side end of the runway to find the dyke (banking) I stood on 40 odd years ago on the north side of the approach is still there, and there were around half a dozen cars present; also a pill-box on the other side of the lights. I was there on Tuesday- unfortunately very little was happening.

I will be visiting Lossie friday morning. Can some Typhoons been seen in HAS-areas or serials readable on any flightlines? This as extra on the flying aircraft.
In weekends there are no a/c outside?
TIA.

2 work off a small apron in the southern HAS site and the QRA jets are in the northern HAS site.
1, 6 and 9 operate off the aprons to the south and east of the tower so can easily be seen from the 23 threshold area.
I believe there isn't a huge amount of flying at the moment but you might get lucky.

Hi guys, question for the locals..... I am going to be up in the area on business in mid May (once lockdown is lifted). What is the situation with viewing from the sea /golf course end? I know, as part of the nirthside works, the entrance to the track wasnt accessible le, they installed a new gate and put a new taller fence in. Can we still access the track alongside the golf course to watch the action?
Its gonna rain, its gonna rain till the levee breaks, a tidal wave of fear and pain washes us away, another fight into the night until nothing else remains, how do we find harbour from the Hurricane?

I'd also be interested to know the current situation, hoping to visit this summer for first time since the last JW fighter deployment a few years ago. Many thanks for any advice.
