Newbie request for Scanner help

Post by TedGR4a » Wed May 02, 2018 6:03 pm

Hi All,

I've seen the scanner below advertised for £60:

Uniden UBC-72XLT Handheld Radio Scanner

Will this be sufficient to listen in to Lossie Tower/Approach etc in Lossiemouth area please?

My first post so be gentle ;-)

Welcome,
You’ll need the 125xlt for military stuff and it’s about £115 or thereabouts. Also has better storage as well.

I think you will be disappointed if you buy the 72xlt, you certainly will miss out on military airband.
As mentioned, the 125xlt is an excellent scanner, I have one, and it performs very well.
You could go for an older scanner that covers both, these can be had at a very reasonable price on a certain auction site, I have a GRE 295 which I paid £60 for, same price as the 72xlt, but covers mil-and performs very well.
Good luck with your choice ...."

After some research realised scanners have gaps in scanned frequencies. I bought 125xlt

You'll do well to hear Lossie from Edinburgh but it's very unlikely given the heights the aircraft are usually at when their speaking to Lossie.

Lol I know that, I come up to Lossie once/twice a year and would like to have a scanner that can actually listen in

I know that lol, I come up to Lossie once/twice a year and would like to be able to have something decent to listen in
