Swiss AF to Lossiemouth

Swiss Air Force exercises in Scotland in the future

The Swiss Air Force has been practicing fighter jet night flights in Norway since 1998. This concludes what the NZZ writes. The pilots will be training in Scotland for the first time this November

Since 1998, Swiss fighter pilots have been training their night flights in Norway every year. This, out of respect for the Swiss population, which should not be disturbed by the training flights while sleeping. This concludes, as reported by the NZZ.

The Luftwaffe had to look for a new location because of the heavy construction work at the Norwegian Air Force Base Örland. One found one in Scotland. As the newspaper writes, the Lossiemouth military airport was designated as a replacement. The local infrastructure is suitable, and there is already a legal basis that makes this possible.

Return to Norway not planned

From 13 November to 8 December, around 35 pilots (including up to ten F / A-18 fighter pilots) and 100 ground staff members are to be involved in the planned training abroad. It is unclear whether the location in Scotland should be used in the long term for night flight training. At the beginning of the year, it was reported that the location of Norway was also on the verge of cost reasons.

Many thanks for firming up the dates for the Swiss deployment to Lossiemouth.
Thought it was just a rumour that they were coming ;)

I - and probably quite a few others - would be very grateful if one of the Lossie locals would post the F-18 serials for each separate wave,

Many thanks in advance.

They were hangared pretty quickly last night, so I assume they will be over the weekend too.

I am going to make the long journey up next week from south of the border - my first visit to Lossie. Would some kind soul give me an idea of where Hangar 17 is please - is that one of the ones on the north side - the old XV squadron area?
Regards, Mark
