I was speaking to the CP140 crew before their flight last night. They wouldn't confirm whether it was sub surface or surface searching they were doing only that they were still searching.
Overhead 1 of the P3 crews at breakfast saying they were flying at 20.00hrs.

The MPA's are here tasked to locate a boat found lurking off the West coast, no doubt waiting to track our next SSBN out of Faslane, how it was located is ironic and pure luck really as its down to the regulations of UK Submarines within UK fishing grounds (long story short all UK boats must be surfaced within these areas)
The intruder was spotted by a trawler with its persicope visable off the west coast, and since the RN boats abide by strict safety regs introduced since HMS Trenchant dragged down a trawler some years ago after a swift investigation proved that no UK or Friendly boats where in area at the time of report, hence the immediate influx of NATO MPA's and the UK token R1 on the scene.

Nothing has been located so far, not so much as a sniff and there are a number of FFG's and a UK SSN involved in the hunt, but it is highly unlikely that Marko Ramius and his caterpilla driven SSN will be found, and considering Xmas leave is just around the corner I understand the French MPA has already pulled out and the Royal Navy skimmers are twitching like Jihady Johns curtains to get back to Portsmouth in due time.

So it looks like Ramius 1.... NATO 0 on this occasion.

End of Report, if I hear anything else worth mentioning i will report in, but its highly unlikely.

Maybe the Govt will wake up now to the realisation that we have a bit of an issue with MPA capability

But then again - Maybe not

The MOD were looking at the option of the "Sea Hercules" as Britains MPA, however i believe this has now been canned.

ironically though the UK sends millions of pounds in cash to India as overseas aid and yet India have the new P8 Posiedon :'(

I would personally like to see the UK with the P3/CP140, I think its a fantastic aircraft and our allies have already planned upgrades to keep it in service until 2030 so we would get plenty of life out of them.

i seriously doubt they would reopen Kinloss as an Air Station, it would make far to much sense to do so and that never happens in the MOD.

I don't think it would be that difficult to base MPA's at Lossiemouth, the station seems to cope with hosting Joint Warrior guests no problem.

All the money is on Kinloss. The Army might be there at the moment but they've been told not to change anything and they would be quite happy to move out and head South.

The P-7 was offered as an alternative to what was then Nimrod 2000 which became the MRA4.

The P3 was considered, as has been said, but who thought up 35 Squadron in this connection. There is no way it would have been 35 either then or if we get P8's. It would surely be 201 or 120.
