Re: Scottish Low Flying Question.......
Is there much low flying around Skye ? going up for a week on the 19th, more for wildlife really but will have radio with me and would be nice to see some low fast jets.
Re: Scottish Low Flying Question.......
Not as much as there used to be that's for sure. When the Tornado's were at Lossie you probably would've seen a couple of pairs per day, sadly they are no longer. When it was Buccaneers and Jaguars you would've seen over a dozen per day. I would say if you see anything you've been lucky, the whole Highlands in general are quiet nowadays.
Re: Scottish Low Flying Question.......
Lairg is the same, very quiet. Used to be very busy with FAC on the local hill or the edge of the cemetery. These days lucky if you get the odd Typhoon flying past low level. Have had a couple of C130's lately. Even Cape Wrath is quiet although possibly in use during Saxon Warrior.
Re: Scottish Low Flying Question.......
I was walking the south Glen Shiel ridge last year and I saw a GR4 go through the valley. Pretty cool sight since I was standing at about 2500ft and the aircraft was on the deck! Also saw an A400 low level over Loch Lomond last month.
Re: Scottish Low Flying Question.......
Glen Shiel was a favourite haunt of the Tornado's from Lossie, they used to fly both directions(not at the same time). If they were flying East to West they would pull up just as they reached Eilean Donan castle
Do a search for Tornado and Eilean Donan castle and you'll some pictures.

Not off hand Danny. I saw a retweet of it on twitter. Was originally posted by either the pilot or the squadron.
