Woodfords Runway
Woodfords Runway
I was travelling by Train from Stoke, when I noticed all the obstructons both on the Runway and grass areas have been removed.
On the day of question there appeared to be what looked like a road sweeper on the Runway!
This was in the first week of January
Looking at the NOTAMS and Media comes up with nothing ....so is there something afoot?
My contacts are tight lippped at the moment or they have 'no knowledge' when asked.

Re: Woodfords Runway
The runway is now part of a car track/circuit/thing, so I presume it changes depending on what layout they need.
Re: Woodfords Runway
Still some helicopter activity. Witnessed a R44 lift from the site yesterday.

Re: Woodfords Runway
Many thanks Chaps.
If I hear anything I will post it here....oh! Waypoint 'Hilltop' is actually on Woodford just in case anybody would be interested.

Re: Woodfords Runway
It's the farm next to the mini garage up the road, not actually on the airfield itself.

Sadly, it may be time to take Woodford off here as its pretty much a certainty that there will never be any more military traffic. Only present day relevance now is the Vulcan.

Brilliant, lost count of the number of times I heard she would 'fall to pieces' if moved.

Re: Woodfords Runway
I was a member of the old Avro Gliding club at woodford, as being inolved with BAe, and I used to enjoy flying (under instruction) in the T21! THE FLYING BRICK ! o Saturdays, however Manchester was always moaning about our presence and I think thats why it called it a day!
I joined the Glding Club at Great Hucklow in Derbyshire which produced it's own entertainent military wise!
I used to get soaked being an open cockpit until the two in tandom machine was available ,but the view below was worth with the Nimrods spread out below.
I have a few sneaky slides somewhere of the 'AEW' Nimrods parked close to the club house and never been published
I never worked at Warton but I lived near Warton in the late 90's but fast Jet testing did interest me, it was disasterous the loss of the AEW Nimrod and also the latest fiasco with the Nimrod which meant we bought three 'SNOOPS' EC135's Rivet Joint which should be at Waddngton soon! will leave it at that!
I live near St Micheals on Wyre now.
Thanks for all the posts people it's the end of an era.

Re: Woodfords Runway
Am I right in thinking that its no longer possible to use the runway at Woodford ?
I ask because G-BWWW was up and about earlier but it now seems to be back on the ground spoofing Mode S from somewhere south of Manchester
Suspect its on the south side at Manchester....assuming Woodford is now non operational

Re: Woodfords Runway
It's not at Manchester, or Woodford!
