Woodford-Avro Heritage Museum

Post by castle man » Mon Dec 05, 2016 10:11 pm

This former aircraft manufacturer facility has been quiet on the discussion front for some time, so I'll give you
all a quick update...

Sadly all the main north west assembly sheds are gone with new housing now well & truly established where they stood.
But on the south east side the 5 final hangars still stand awiting their fate (sometime in 2017).

However a new "Shining Light" has been established in the last two years.."The Avro Heritage Museum" based in the former
fire station and thanks to BAE systems completely rebuilt to a cutting edge facility. With just one year under our belts we've
have had over 10,000 visitors, with the initial draw of a timeline of pictures & models in the main viewing hall & XM602s saved cockpit experience allowing the public to sample Vulcan crew conditions.

Now as I write we have restored XM603 back to her original 1963 delivered livery in Anti Flash white & secured more cockpit examples..Canberra-Lancaster-Anson-Nimrod & VC10.

Please make an effort to visit us it won't dissapoint.

Cheers for the update castle man. Woodford is where my passion for aviation started so I'll definitely be visiting the heritage museum in the near future :thumb:

The Shackleton AEW at Manchester museum is currently being dismantled for removal to the Avro Heritage Museum. So there’ll be two famous Avro types there next year.
