Other News
Also some of you may have heard rumours that 2x Typhoon diverted in Warton in the early hours. Just to confirm this is untrue and the Loud Noises heard around 1am were in fact that of 2x Typhoon from RAF Loissemouth practising Diversion Landings at Liverpool Airport during routine night flying. No Typhoons came into Warton during the night.....

Hawk Mk166 crash on Easter sunday (01/04/18)?

Post by TombsRIP » Thu Apr 05, 2018 9:55 am

Believed to be one of the new Mk166's recently delivered although Omani authorities carefully controlling any info released to date (as you would expect):

https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=208549

Note the Omani newspaper article link shows a random image of a "Puma" derivative (SA330J).

Also please note the RAFO still operate earlier Hawk marks with 6 Sqn (Mk103/103A twin seaters & Mk203 single seats) but another source (Scramble) adamant it was a Mk166.

Hi Christian

ZA614 flew later in 2 ship with ZD848 as "Bulkhead 2", both operating with 9(B) Sqn;
WTN69 airborne at 1715L in BS120 on its 1st airtest post long term storage (last of these jets).
Yet another late afternoon sortie. Seen later off Lytham at 1832L on SRA talkdown to rwy07 (+ low o/s?); Landed after circuit 1835L.
Notice we had ZF289 no less than 3 times on pds (SRAs 07) today. ZF139 at least twice and poss a 3rd time alternating with 289?!
Hopefully BS148 up for PFAT2 tomorrow and who knows maybe a first flt by end of week (BS147).
Cheers

"Bulkhead 1/2" seen off Lytham 1331L on pairs SRA (Talkdown) and overshoot 07. Lead ac's pilot sounded American presume on exchange with 9 Sqn.

Fin codes "photoproofed" from home as 110 (lead) and 076 (wingman)..

Departed to Vale of York area for approx 10mins GH before RTB.

Wingman in ZA614/076 (which visited yesterday) was given separate squawk 6042 for this.

BS146 was out earlier for poss delivery but looks like its not going today.
BS148 poss PFAT2 later? Not sure if its out yet though.
IPA6 was out am but since towed back into 358H.

Nice to see the Tornados returning to where they were manufactured before going out of service. Here is the airfield attacks played out at RIAT in 2012 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVuq1f60yT0

Re: April 18 (Log) Tornado assy at Warton

Post by TombsRIP » Thu Apr 12, 2018 8:49 pm

Following link gives workshare of tri-nation project..

http://www.madeinpreston.co.uk/Aviation/tornado.html

Preston Strand Rd was one big machine shop if I recall virtually running from Watery La. to Marsh La.
I remember having to do training there and never seeing the light of day;

I recall all front fuselage equipping was done in 13 Hangar to right of Warton's main gate where it once stood now razed to the ground. Main assembly hall (302H) had 3 parallel assembly lines. Development aircraft were kept southside (like now) but inside 31 (& 32) Hangar before 358H was built. The Buccaneer and Lightning chase/radar targets were in 1 hangar for a while.

Getting as bad as Frank now, waxing lyrical...
