9 Sqn callsign as (vampire) bat is used on badge. ZA591 showed on modeS briefly as "FG01" whilst still in Marham area around 11:06z. Interestingly "MAM Updates" site for this month had ZA591 as wfu!! Obviously not then...

Seen low off Lytham at 1133z and headed north presume for LL in Lakes.

Cheers

Thanks Martin, any idea of Serial, didn't come up - it was a Hawk T.1 with no Sqn markings.

Thanks Christian. I didn't realise one had landed. I thought it was likely to be ZJ951 but apparently not.

Yes very peculiar especially with it being the older T. 1 model. Struggled with ID but it definitely was a T. 1 with no markings, all black livery.

Think mix up between Mike & I. Anyway does not matter. I tend to switch off where Hawk T1/1As/T2s (aka Mk128s) are concerned. I remember the first Hawk T1 being delivered to Valley (showing my age).

If I find out what the u/m T1 is, needless to say Ill let you know. Obviously hawk T1s get swopped occasionally between 100 Sqn "Tatty Ton" and 736 NAS plus go through the Hawk Servicing Flight at Valley. Not sure if many come out of AM&SU Shawbury these days.

Cheers

Hi Martin,

Thanks for that, I am not particularly bothered it just seemed strange for a T.1 to land at EGNO nowadays and be towed into Hangar 3. I remember years ago there used to be 2 Hawk T.1s based at EGNO (XX278 & XX321) - used to take them for granted.

XX198 is coded CH so not u/m. It could have landed on incident (eg suspected birdstrike).

Those hawks you were referring to used to be on loan to BAES to train up ex RAF pilots as instructors for saudi. They were swopped when due for servicing at Valley. Occasionally 3 were loaned if 3 ship sorties required although later on when serviceable airframes became scarce this didnt happen and BAES would use eg ZA101 with its single seat in front cockpit. PC-9s were also used on same instrutor training contract (Percy ZG969 plus Pinky on loan from rsaf later).

Quite possibly, it was circuit bashing and just before the 4th T+G, there were lots of birds in the area with flares fired by AT2 so yes your theory may be correct.
Yes we can rule out XX198, it is currently up from Leeming as Agressor01.

I always wondered why we had the Hawk T.1s - the Hawks and PC-9s were more or less flying daily, I know I certainly took them for granted, we were spoiled back then.

Re: March 18 (Log) 19/3 Qatari C-17 over the top

Post by TombsRIP » Mon Mar 19, 2018 12:06 pm

Quite easily visible at 1105z trailing well over the Fylde at FL300 tracking to REMSI (FL310) then NIBOG (NI) was

C-17A Callsign LHOB247 (peudo civil id) (A7-)MAE Qatari Emirati AF. Hex 06A256.
Had departed STN 1040z after nightstop.
Who knows we could even see this on the ground at Warton when qatari typhoon order starts appearing (wishful thinking maybe). We've had C-17 (A7-)MAC plus a C-130J-30 in at Warton if I recall.

Cheers

I unfortunately missed the Qatari C-17 but I do remember the Qatari C130 (Reg:213) which came into EGNO back in Mar 2016.

There was a Qatari C17 in November, 2O15 photographed by Mark Saunders.
