Saudi 747

Post by miketech » Fri Nov 17, 2017 11:03 pm

Hi guys. Anyone have any information on future visits to warton from the Saudi 747 cargo. Missed the last visit but heard it take off heading eastwards with a possible tail wind then immediately turned westwards appearing to be almost stationary in the sky. I have never heard of such an odd take off procedure . Can anyone enlighten me with any info ? Or am I mistaken with my theory.

747s can't hover, so I'd suggest you were mistaken! Quite likely a trick of the angle of the aircraft and it's movement relative to you.

Thanks Chris for the info. EGVP I'm fairly certain the 747 took off eastwards with a strong tail wind as the wife pointed out. The fact the aircraft turned westwards and appeared to be moving slowly into wind would confirm this . I however would have thought that a tail wind take off with cargo would be unusual . Only other theory I can come up with is the wind direction where I was differed somewhat . I am lytham road, so I would have thought close enough.

Next B74 poss due in early next week. A relatively low groundspeed and a large aircraft can give this impression of flying far slower than it actually is. Its just an illusion...as that old song goes ;-)

One of our local correspondents was visiting Freckleton Medical Centre recently. On the notice board was a notice from the local Parish Council to the effect that BAE Systems would complete most of there outstanding orders by the end of 2017/18 and that there would be a dramatic reduction in fast jet flying at Warton.

There was also news that over the next 12/18 months there would be a number of cargo flights to The Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia delivering aircraft parts/spares.

Better keep an eye on that notice board in future then...maybe more info on what's going on "down the road" than posted on this forum. I'll keep up my occasional posts anyhow...
Export Customers
Unless a follow-on order only 4 more Omani typhoons to go now (2 of which already flown with at least NS6 painted with NS7 possibly in paintshop at mo. Only 2 more Omani Hawks remaining (both flown and painted and expected to be delivered very shortly after ferry shakedowns)
Only one more saudi Hawk Mk165 of first 22 (ST018) to be delivered. Have not seen it painted yet although I would have thought it was by now. Plus 19 more saudi Mk165s by air freight (latest
2 on 28/11).
24 typhoons for Qatar eventually (some diverted from RAF???).
6x Hawk Mk167(?) also For Qatar.

And for the RAF...
5 more long term stored/ex std jets
ZK357; ZK359; ZK360 (airtest#1 1/11); ZK362; ZK363 (airtest #2 29/11).
Also ZK370 (which was on ground trials this year) & ZK350 which was also used on ground trials but damaged awaiting repair.
Plus the 16 remaining Block 25s ZK424-439 incl; the first 6 of which have already flown. None delivered yet...most likely some already in temp store.
And finally ZJ922/QO-C cat4 repair?? Currently std.
Before anyone asks Ive excluded the Development Fleet IPAs (as will never enter service but see ZK350 & ZK370 above) and also the based 41TES jets (BT17/BS116/BS117) of which there may be a few more in near future...

Re: Saudi 747 & An12

Thanks for updates and correction everyone. Obviously guessed wrong this time. Operated by Astral Aviation (HQ in Nairobi) arr as "Astral Cargo (ACP)4575". Had a new paintjob since last visit on 27/09/17 courtesy of Air Livery at Manch in early Nov, as still in Saudi Arabian livery then. Presume ac leased on to them by Air Atlanta Icelandic.
Which hawk(s) is it taking out? I would say definately ST025 & poss ST023, plus wingsets tailplanes etc. An12 still on ground when checked at 1610z but repositioned northside from "cargo" apron southside

Update: An12 departed 1920z as UKL4087 off rwy 25
Update: B747-48EF (SCD) dep 2109z same fltno off rwy 07

Does anybody know where the AN-12 is flying to as it headed west after departure last seen on FR24 off Western coast of Ireland?

UPDATE - According to FR24 destination for AN-12 is Halifax, Nova Scotia.
UPDATE 29/11 - 747 flew to Dhahran and now back up again currently flying west towards Taif/Jeddah.
AN-12 nightstopping at Halifax, Nova Scotia

747 now back in Nairobi so looks like Hawks were dropped off in Dhahran.
AN-12 now in Haiti after flying from Nova Scotia... We're is it going to and why was it at Warton?
