Operational log for April, 2017 i/c 3 EFA Pilot films

Postby johnhowe » Wed Apr 05, 2017 2:50 pm

After having a fantastic lunch of Roast Beef & Yorkshire pudding with all the trimmings at Bryn Cottage at Much Hoole I went to
visit Warton having been informed that as couple of Royal Saudi Airforce Hawks would be flying.

Royal Saudi Hawks ZB 116 tail code 7907 & ZB 120 tail code 2111. duly rotated off runway 25 for trials work on return both flew high key approaches onto the runway before landing.

later in the afternoon a Grob came into the circuit G.CGKL and landed we may have been watching a future Typhoon Pilot.

On my last few visits to Warton I've missed seeing a Typhoon flying, so I thought I would share the experience of what its like
to Fly a fast jet.

Climb into cockpit of aircraft complete checks with ground crew taxi from south side backtrack along Charlie taxiway enter 25
turn at Granvilles Gate obtain clearance from ATC throttles to full power, a surge of acceleration, pause to check engine indications, throttles through the gate, a tremendous kick as reheat lights, almost immediately jet is airborne gears and flaps selected up , five minutes after leaving the south side aircraft is passing 15,000 feet at just below the speed of sound (0.9 Mach)
with the mighty Avon thrust masters purring (sorry did I forget to mention I'm describing a Lightning rotation not a Typhoon)
with 26,000lbs of cold power available the Lightning has a most impressive rate of unreheated climb at top of climb curvature
of the earth is clearly visible. This sequence was given to me by one of Wartons Test pilots who is now no longer with us.

So now you know what Tarnish 5/9 & Tarnish 69 experience when they fly the Typhoon.

So we had a nice pass of a Red Arrows Hawk this morning, anyone know what the reason was?

May be a coincidence but next Wednesday the 12th, April, 2017 there is a lecture by a Red Arrows Pilot at the monthly meeting

of The Royal Aeronautical Society. Further checking reveals that its Alan Chubb who is not one of the current Reds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CgqfdhT0xg As I previously mentioned a lack of seeing Typhoon flying the next best thing is seeing Tarnish 5s display at Farnborough.
