It is with regret I report the death of Edward ( Ted ) Jane aged 85 years who died at Trinity Hospice Blackpool on Saturday the 14th, November, 2015. Ted had been a committee member for Avro Lancashire for over 20 years Ted supplied 100s of aviation related books for our monthly raffle draws.

Ted had been a planning engineer with English Electric in the household division for over 30 years. Ted did his National Service in the 1950s where he served in The RAF because of his educational background he was selected for Pilot Training flying Air speed Oxfords and other training aircraft.

Teds engineering background has been inherited by his son Ralph who is the principal of High Peak Classics, Triumph Repair(Stags) Restoration.

What a fantastic surprise we had last night Anthony Gregory turned out to be a Celebrated RAF Pilot.

We all thought that the talk was about Grumman Bobcats and Wildcats.

Anthony Gregory flew the Tornado F3 for a number of years. He was one of the four RAF Pilots led by Wg Cmd David Chan who set up Case White at Warton, flying

the Typhoon with 17 SQ . Anthony was in in charge of the Typhoon OCU and brought 3 & 11 Squadron into front line service.

After describing his RAF career he then moved onto the subject of his talk The F 14 Grumman Tomcat. Anthony flew with The Grimm Reapers on Nimitz class

Aircraft Carriers I was amazed to find that these Nuclear Carriers could plough through the ocean at up to 50 gnots. there were lots of anecdotes one about how the

Tomcat beat the F 15 Eagle to form part of the Iranian Air force when The Shah was in power.

Anthony now works for BAES at Warton on Typhoon overseas development

This would be a superb lecture for our Preston Branch of The Royal Aeronautical Society.

Avro Lancashire Meeting 28.1.16 Peter Kosogarin

Post by johnhowe » Mon Feb 01, 2016 7:54 pm

Last Thursday 28th, January, 2016. Pete Kosogarin one of Warton's Test Pilots gave up some of his valuable time to give the society a talk on The new Striker 2 Helmet+.

Striker 2 is the next generation pilot's helmet developed by the Electronic Systems business in Rochester Kent. The Helmet builds on the Striker helmet mounted display which is now flown on Typhoon with new high definition night vision camera which replaces the need for separate night vision goggles.Striker 2 has undergone flight trials at Warton in 2015 with further trials taking place in 2016.

The great thing about our Warton Test Pilots after the initial lecture which usually lasts about an hour they stay on for the long awaited questions and answers which is always very interesting. Pete flew The F35 at Pax River and Jim Brittain our modeller had made a F35 for Pete with the RAF serial displayed. The presentation was performed by our Chairman Simon Eccleston which also included a bottle of Hermitage Crozier a Test Pilots Special.
