puzzled here in york

Post by capturedwings » Mon May 19, 2014 7:23 am

So I was outside last weds and thurs night at about 11.30 and heard an aircraft on approach to ether linton or leeming.so waited then over it came low... very low no lights at all, and very slow never seen anything like it in all my years.then as it got closer to linton up popped a helicopter straight up did a ciruit then landed.this happened 2 nights in a row at the same time.
now iam not a novice spotter give you an idea I can tell a tonka from a phooon inside my work just by how the walls vibrate lol lol
we havea herc go over everynight from the hall at about 9.30 so it wasnt that.just a strange thing to be going over at that time the height whst got me which id say was about 250 ish

Anything to do with the radar exercise at Church Fenton...? We had a low helicopter over one evening last week after dark.

Hi capturedwings,

There will have been two of them, V-22 Osprey's from Midenhall :)

Regards,
Will

Were they active again Tuesday night 23h00hrs onwards ? I heard something overhead York, slow & low, but could not spot.
Was a new sound on me - and I did think Osprey TBH
Thanks

Had a v22 over at about 1.30 this morning, had 2 herc over at 10.30 and 11.37 both returned at about 12 ish 3 mins apart but the soumd last wek was jet engine not prop. The one last night was normal height, watched it go over lfa11 usual flight path north, the one last week was real low and and sounded like it was on idle as it went over me ive been waiting with camera set on very low light iso ready so might be able to get some type of photo.

Helicopters (2) literally just went over now heading south from York!! Tried to get a visual and definitely looked like the Wildcats from Leeming!

More activity now (2300), what sounded like helicopter/s loitering over Church Fenton then heading north(ish) at what seemed quite fast speed considering how 'heavy' they sounded (noise diminished quite quickly).
