Christine has arrived at the gates!!!

Wittering got it's new gate guard today, in the form of ZD469, fresh from respray.

Not that good TBH, no markings yet (that's if any are going to be applied), full gloss coat in grey.

Any idea where the old GR3, T4 and T8 have gone?

Cheers

Inside the station. There is talk of a Harrier Heritage Park at Wittering, to which all of these will go; but nothing more concrete than that. They have a GR1, GR3, plenty of GR7s/GR9s, plus the T4 and T8. Could even rework a GR7 back to GR5 standard, only externally mind you; giving examples of the whole fleet.

Rumours were of T8 being moved to Yeovilton as it's fish-head bird, along with SHARs from Cottesmore.

Drove past it this morning, dont like the paint job, I thought it was a plastic replica, hope it looks better when it gets fully marked up.

I thought exactly the same drove past it on my way home from work and thought it was plastic too.

Hi Goose,

See following.

It come from the Stephen King novel 'Christine'. It tells of a car possessed by supernatural forces. Even the Taliban couldn't kill off 'Christine' completely!

No problem, Goose. I saw her yesterday on my way to Old Warden. She does look a bit plastic, but well done the team for putting her in place!

The last time I saw ZD469 it was in 2006 when it was "parked" at the back of No.IV (AC) Squadron's hangar at Cottesmore being robbed for spare parts. :'(

The serial number had masking tape over it so visitors could see the number BUT if you stood in the hangar in the afternoon on a sunny day the sunlight made the serial number stand out

So I'm pleased that ther scrap man hasn't go this airframe.

One thing about the "old" Harrier GR3 on the gate - it was one of the two RAF Harriers which won the Daily Mail trans-atlantic Air Race in the 1970's.

Yes it certainly looks very plastic, perhaps some vinyl will appear soon!
