Visit next week..

Post by MattyAJessop » Thu Nov 25, 2010 4:33 pm

Thinking of giving it another go on Monday... Looking at the Forcast the wind looks ok at the moment for the 22 end... Anyone else planning on going then?

Im looking at heading up on Tuesday as the snow looks like it may relent a little, well according to the met office! winds look to be easterly/ north easterly, any locals have any info on what end they will be flying on an easterly wind?

Easterly or northerly winds = 04 operations.

Greetings everyone,

I have not heard any radio traffic this morning and the uncleared side roads have received some more snow o/night. I plan to do a trial run late this afternoon if I can get the car battery charged and will post comments this evening.

'til later

Only a SNOWTAM, but I guess it's implies that the place is shut?

Damien's been for a wander and has sent me a pic taken on his phone. If anyone was thinking of going to COT today, I wouldn't bother - there's significant snowfall covering all of the airfield and no sign of them clearing in it (presumably what 'Breakage is nil' refers to?).

Breakage is nil refers to the fact if you're on the taxiway, apron or runway and try using your brakes, you're just going to keep going until you hit something solid.

Back home - no sign of any life at Cottesmore, taxiways and runways totally covered by snow and I hear they don't have snow clearing gear. Could be that's it for flying there until the snow melts away... and looking at the forecast, that's not going to happen any time soon.

The SNOWTAM says runway 22 is covered to a depth of 30mm (30/30/30) in dry snow (4) over ice (7), with braking friction not measured (X).

Was originally planning to be there today, but gave up over the weekend looking at the forecast. Next Mon/Tues likely to be my last chance - I hope the weather improves.
