Chinook Overhead

Post by XPLUMBER » Mon Nov 14, 2016 7:52 am

At approximately 07:40 this morning 14th November 2016 a Chinook appeared overhead RAF Wittering and hovered stationary except for a few turns at 600 feet.

He is still buzzing the airfield.

Didn't stay long as not around, or I didn't see, when I went passed at 0815

Thought I caught sight of something resembling the Chinook in the distance as I was heading south on the A1 earlier this morning.

I was southbound on the A1 at 07.45 and saw his several wide orbits at around 3000' from the traffic queue. Think he was awaiting airfield opening at 08.00 as by the time the traffic progressed under the approach he had just landed and was taxiing over to the north side

Any I/D on this one anyone ?

thanks

Are they using Wittering as a base for Ex low Rider at Donna Nook range?

Having just run a report on adsbexchange, it looks like ZA710 [SHF444] was in the Wittering area at that time.

It then departed to the NE, and plotted near Cadwell Park, so could have gone to Donna Nook.

Return flight as SHF394.

Thank you 3Greens and Skymaster; timing of the sighting is spot on.
Details following make sense too, as a colleague advises the range has beeen busy.
