Sad state of affairs, as this once proud airfield, once a hub of activity, is becoming a place to watch the tumbleweed blow round.

Called in to the viewing area today and the hedge is so tall you can't see the airfield anyway. You can only just see the vulcan by the road .

The hedge is awful, when I've been up in recent times I've always walked towards the runway, if you're tall enough you can just peep over the fence to the left of the runway edge.

As for traffic, its getting quieter again, was fairly busy last year with the re opening but its all died off.

I was working from 2 days last week, and the traffic was minimal, majority of it was Waddington Flying club traffic.

Yes, but the notam doesn't apply to station aircraft, its purely for visiting aircraft, and there will be exceptions such as the dakota in the circuit for an hour yesterday.

The NOTAM also doesn't apply to practice diversions, so the Dakota was perfectly normal.

Could this be for practice formation flypasts for the Queens Birthday (only 2 weeks away), RAF 100 over London and the air force review flypast scheduled for the first day of the Air Tattoo? I know Cranwell has been used for the QBF rehearsal for the last couple of years - suspect that that rehearsal will scheduled for w/c 4 June.

VASS facilities have still not reopened following the work on the runway & taxiways, so I suspect that's what the NOTAM is about?

There is still a live NOTAM out for no VASS, but the current one for that ends 9th June.

This new NOTAM will be for pattern work etc.

There will be a separate NOTAM close to the time for the practice flypasts, whether they use Cranwell or Waddington.
